  1. 16. Deposition and absorption of inhaled drugs

    Författare :Eva Bondesson; Malmö Klinisk fysiologi och nuklearmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tomografi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; technetium-99m; radionuclide imaging; radioactive aerosol; powder inhaler; pharmacokinetics; mucociliary clearance; lung deposition; gamma scintigraphy; inhalation; deposition modelling; drug absorption; absorption enhancer; aerosol; medicinsk instrumentering; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Main objectives of this thesis were to evaluate a gamma scintigraphic method used to quantify drug aerosol deposition in the lung, to investigate the influence of two aerosol inhalation parameters on the distribution of inhaled dry powder within the airways, to assess pulmonary absorption kinetics and bioavailability of an inhaled hydrophilic solute in relation to site of deposition, and to assess the influence of a surface active agent (sodium taurocholate, a bile salt) on the deposition and absorption of an inhaled hydrophilic solute. Repeated planar gamma scintigraphy was found to provide the same information on total pulmonary drug deposition as an independent method that involved assessments of urinary drug recovery after blockage of gastrointestinal drug absorption when all of the critical parts of the methodological procedures were accurately and meticulously executed. 2. 17. Development of novel synthetic lung surfactants for treatment of respiratory distress syndrome

    Författare :Oihana Basabe Burgos; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary surfactant is a complex mixture of lipids and specific proteins found in the alveoli and its main role is to reduce the surface tension of the alveolar air/water interface, thereby preventing lung collapse. Lack of pulmonary surfactant in premature babies results in lethal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), which is today treated with surfactant replacement therapy, i. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Cardiovascular response to hyperoxemia, hemodilution and burns : a clinical and experimental study

    Författare :Zoltan Bak; Birgitta Janerot Sjöberg; Robert Hahn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anesthesia; general; Burns; Echocardiography; transesophageal; Hemodilution; emodynamic processes; Hyperoxia; Intensive care; Intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : The last decades less invasive monitoring and analytical tools have been developed for the evaluation of myocardial mechanics in clinical praxis. In critical care, these are longed-for complements to pulmonary artery catheter monitoring, additionally offering previously inaccessible information. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Cooling and dopamine

    Författare :Roger Roscher; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; electrophysiology; cooling; Hypothermia; swine; lung transplantation; organ preservation; dopamine; circulation; contractility; oxygenation; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : There is little knowledge about the circulatory effects of dopamine in hypothermia. Induced hypothermia has been shown to improve outcome in various settings. Hypothermia is also used for preservation of organs that are harvested for transplantation. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Studies on nitric oxide in the respiratory system

    Författare :Ulla Schedin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :nitric oxide; endogenous; respiratory system; neonate; prematureinfant; animal; primate; elephant; chemiluminescence; electrochemical; nitrogen dioxide; trachea; nose; ;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is formed in biological tissues and has regulatory functions in many organ systems. Endogenous NO has been found in exhaled air and NO is considered to have effects on the pulmonary circulation and bronchial tone, and to be one of the mediators for the circulatory adaptation at birth.
