1. Moments on a City Bus : Micro-sociology of Non-verbal Interaction in Urban Bus-riding
Sammanfattning : This thesis seeks to contribute to research on social interaction in public (and semi-public) places in general, and research on non-verbal mundane interaction in these places in particular. By paying empirical attention to the non-verbal interaction that takes place in the context of riding a city bus – which is a contained and time-limited form of social activity – this thesis explores the theoretically rich source of information about mundane interaction that this specific social activity offers. The investigation examines how local history and culture are used in symbolic forms to articulate the province as an imagined community in varying periods, media, and social contexts. Sammanfattning : The research problem this dissertation addresses is how judicial practices generate administrative justice in asylum determination procedures. Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to give a contribution to the knowledge of why people use violence against each other in public places. In more specific terms the thesis examines mechanisms that generates violent actions by reference to what happens in the situated transaction between the offender and the victim, and to the ways in which the urban environment create opportunities for violent actions. 5. Rituals of a Secular Nation : Shinto Normativity and the Separation of Religion and State in Postwar Japan
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores how the concept of “religion” has been interpreted and negotiated in postwar Japanese courts of law, with a particular focus on its relationship to the adjacent concept “Shinto.” Particular attention is given to the landmark rulings by the Supreme Court on the Tsu Groundbreaking Ceremony case in 1977 and the Ehime Tamagushiryō case in 1997.
