6. Structural and conformational studies of bacterial polysaccharides employing NMR spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Methods and approaches for performing structural and conformational analysis of bacterial polysaccharides in solution are described. The structure of one exopolysaccharide from Lactobacillus helveticus and two O-antigens from Escherichia coli have been determined using NMR spectroscopy, chemical degradation and mass spectrometry. 7. Composition-Structure Correlations of Bioactive Glasses Explored by Multinuclear Solid-state NMR Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis presents a study of structure-composition correlations of bioactive glasses (BGs) by employing solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.Silicate-based Na2O−CaO−SiO2−P2O5 BGs are utilized clinically and are extensively investigated for bone regeneration purposes. 8. Profiling Plasma Metabolite Alterations in Diet-Induced Obesity and Diabetes Using NMR Metabolomics
Sammanfattning : Diets rich in saturated fat and sedentary lifestyles markedly contribute to obesity and metabolic syndrome-related diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). Metabolite profiling plays a pivotal role in understanding these metabolic diseases. LÄS MER
9. Studies of carbohydrate structure, properties and interactions by nmr spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the structure, properties and interactions of different types of carbohydrates were investigated by NMR spectroscopy. The structures of kappa- (κ) and kappa/mu- (κ/μ) carrageenan oligosaccharides were analyzed by studying the hydroxy protons. LÄS MER
10. Biochemical studies of carbohydrate blood group antigens - Carbohydrate phenotype in relation to cellular glycosyltranferases
Sammanfattning : The possibility to alter the cell surface carbohydrate expression by insertion or deletion of glycosyltransferase genes is a powerful technique to study the biological function of selected carbohydrate antigens. However, shifting the equilibrium between competing glycosyltransferases might lead to unexpected phenotypic effects, such as accumulation of other carbohydrate antigens and exposure of antigen structures that normally are cryptic or present in minute amounts on the cell surface.
