  2. 2. Effects of Endogenous and Exogenous Hormones on the Female Breast : With Special Reference to the Expression of Proteoglycans

    Författare :Gunilla Hallberg; Tord Naessén; Gunvor Ekman-Ordeberg; Ingemar Persson; Cecilia Magnusson; Eva von Schoultz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast tissue; proteoglycans; mammographic density; oral contraceptives; androgen receptor; proliferation; apoptosis; extracellular matrix; premenopausal; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to study the effects of endogenous and exogenous hormones and mammographic breast density (BD) on cellular markers in non-cancerous female breast tissue. Women on the waiting list for breast reduction plastic surgery were recruited (n = 79), and randomized to 2 months of hormone therapy or no therapy before surgery. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Fatty acids induce potentially atherogenic changes in extracellular matrix proteoglycans

    Författare :Mariam Rodríguez-Lee; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :proteoglycans; glycosaminoglycans; fatty acids; smooth muscle cells; hepatocytes; LDL binding; remnant clearance; insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are associated with an increased prevalence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). A key step in the initiation of atherogenesis is retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the intima by chondroitin sulfate (CS)-rich proteoglycans (PG). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Proteoglycans, group IIA phospholipase A2, and lipoproteins.Potential involvement in atherogenesis

    Författare :Peter Sartipy; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atherosclerosis; group IIA phospholipase A2; proteoglycans; lipoproteins; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial complex disease characterized by a focal accumulation of ApoB-100 containing lipoproteins, extracellular matrix (ECM), and cells in the arterial intima accompanied by an inflammatory reaction. In vivo and in vitro data supports the hypothesis that sulfated extracellular proteoglycans may be responsible for the selective retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the arterial wall. 5. 5. The effect of hypoxia on macrophage proteoglycans: potential role in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Annika Asplund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :atherosclerosis; proteoglycans; glycosaminoglycans; macrophages; hypoxia; hypoxia-inducible transcription factor; LDL binding; cell motility;

    Sammanfattning : A critical step in the development of atherosclerotic lesions appears to be the retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the arterial wall, mediated by negatively charged proteoglycans (PG). Retained LDL is susceptible to modification and uptake by resident macrophages that are found in hypoxic sites in atherosclerotic lesions (with oxygen levels below 1%). LÄS MER
