  1. 1. The role of melanocortin 1 receptor in kidney disease

    Författare :Annika Lindskog Jonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephrotic syndrome; proteinuria; adrenocorticotropic hormone; melanocortin 1 receptor; podocytes;

    Sammanfattning : Nephrotic syndrome is a term describing a group of poorly understood glomerular diseases that are responsible for a steadily increasing number of patients requiring active uremic care. Characteristic symptoms of nephrotic syndrome are proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia and peripheral edema, and treatment of these symptoms, rather than their cause, is currently the only option available to the clinician. 2. 2. Blood pressure, blood pressure development and potential risk factors for hypertension with special reference to metabolic factors and kidney function

    Författare :Karl Kristjansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypertension; blood pressure; women; epidemiology; weight change; metabolic factors; insulin; glucose tolerance; albuminuria; proteinuria; risk factors.;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: The overall aim of this thesis was to search for predictors of blood pressure development with special reference to anthropometric, metabolic and renal function variables.Study populations and methods: Two large long-term prospective population studies, The Population Study of Women in Gothenburg, Sweden carried out since 1968-69, with 1462 women between 38 and 60 years old at baseline and 24 year follow-up, and The Reykjavik Study, Iceland, which started in 1967 with an initial participation of 8285 men and 9183 women in various age groups. 3. 3. Properties of the glomerular endothelial cell surface layer in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Vincent Fridén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Glomerular filtration; Glomerular endothelial cell surface layer; Proteinuria; Proteoglycans; glycocalyx; glycosaminoglycans; glomerular endothelial cells; permselectivity and glomerular endothelial cell coat;

    Sammanfattning : A healthy kidney produces final urine that is practically devoid of proteins and other physiologically important solutes. Tremendous amounts of fluid are filtered every day through the glomerular filtration barrier which is the actual sieving site in the kidney. LÄS MER

  4. 4. A Study of Renal Function in Children with Cancer

    Författare :Lars Hjorth; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Pediatri; nefrologi; Urologi; nephrology; Urology; children; sequelae; pediatric oncology; chemotherapy; renal toxicity; malignancy; hyperfiltration; iohexol clearance; glomerular filtration rate; kidney disease; Glomerular proteinuria; tubular proteinuria;

    Sammanfattning : Evaluation of long-term side effects of treatment is important due to the growing number of childhood cancer survivors. How kidney function is affected over time needs to be clarified. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Permeability of the glomerular filtration barrier in relation to the size, shape, charge and deformability of the permeating molecules

    Författare :Daniel Asgeirsson; Njurmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; proteinuria; capillary physiology; peritoneal membrane; dialysis; microalbuminuria; cardiovascular; endothelial dysfunction; diagnosis;

    Sammanfattning : Characterization of the glomerular filtration barrier is of fundamental importance for understanding the pathophysiology of proteinuric kidney diseases. Furthermore, it can be of key value in the understanding of microalbuminuria, which is often associated with endothelial dysfunction in conjunction with cardiovascular disease. LÄS MER
