  1. 16. From protein sequence to structural instability and disease

    Författare :Lixiao Wang; Uwe Sauer; Sven Hovmöller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :protein domain; remote homologue; intrinsically disorder unstructured proteins; protein function; point mutation; protein family protein stability; HMMs; CRFs; SVMs;

    Sammanfattning : A great challenge in bioinformatics is to accurately predict protein structure and function from its amino acid sequence, including annotation of protein domains, identification of protein disordered regions and detecting protein stability changes resulting from amino acid mutations. The combination of bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics becomes essential for the investigation of biological, cellular and molecular aspects of disease, and therefore can greatly contribute to the understanding of protein structures and facilitating drug discovery. 2. 17. Water and protein solutions studied by field-dependent magnetic relaxation

    Författare :Kristofer Modig; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; relaxation; protein solvation; protein dynamics; protein denaturation; oxytocin; magnetic relaxation dispersion; nuclear magnetic resonance; lipid-binding protein; hydration; beta-lactoglobulin; BPTI; shielding anisotropy; water; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : In the work presented, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation is used to study wide range of systems. The thesis concerns solvent interactions studied with relaxation techniques that involve measurements at many fields, which allows the separation of individual relaxation mechanisms. LÄS MER

  3. 18. How transient interactions in the crowded cytosol affect protein mobility and stability

    Författare :Sarah Leeb; Mikael Oliveberg; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusive transient interactions; macromolecular crowding; protein stability; in-cell NMR; protein evolution; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Most biochemical reactions have evolved in crowded intracellular environments. However, the complexity of intracellular environments is often neglected in structural or functional studies of proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Protein folding, stability and recognition

    Författare :Jianxin Duan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Protein; folding; stability; recognition; molecular dynamics; protein-DNA interactions; simulation;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins make up for most of the dry mass of a cell and they are highly involved in virtually all cellular processes. The importance of the proteins is reflected by frequent association between dysfunctional proteins and diseases. Proteins have also wide applications in industries. LÄS MER

  5. 20. In silico protein design for the enhancement of protein stability and function

    Författare :David A. Hueting; Per-Olof Syrén; Hjalmar Brismar; Zbynek Prokop; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein Engineering; Ancestral sequence reconstruction; terpene cyclases; SARS-CoV-2; Spike protein; PET; PETase; rational engineering; Proteinteknik; Förfäders sekvensrekonstruktion; Terpencyklas; SARS-CoV-2; Spike protein; PET; PETas; rationell proteinteknik; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Enzymes are natures catalysts that increase the rate of a chemical reaction. The increased rate of a reaction is required to be able to sustain life. Despite the huge impact of enzymes, they are not perfect catalysts. LÄS MER
