6. Assembly and Secretion of Atherogenic Lipoproteins
Sammanfattning : The classical dyslipidemia seen in patients with type 2 diabetes is characterized by elevated serum triglycerides (TG), low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and the appearance of small, dense low-density lipoproteins (LDL). It is now recognized that the different components of diabetic dyslipidemia are not isolated abnormalities but are closely linked to each other metabolically, and are initiated by the hepatic overproduction of large triglyceride-rich very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL1). 7. The Role of Protein Kinase C in the Extracellular Ca2+-regulated Secretion of Parathyroid Hormone
Sammanfattning : Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is the major physiological regulator of the extracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]o) in the body. The secretion of this hormone is suppressed at high [Ca2+]o. LÄS MER
8. Engineering the Secretory Pathway for Recombinant Protein Secretion in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : In the past few decades there has been an increasing demand of biopharmaceutical proteins in the market. Several types of cell factories are applied to produce different pharmaceutical proteins. LÄS MER
9. Vitamin K-dependent protein S - studies of synthesis, structure and function
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on four projects with the overall aim to investigate vitamin K-dependent protein S functions in relation to its structure. The anticoagulant functions of protein S can be divided in three: 1) cofactor for activated protein C (APC), 2) cofactor for tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) and 3) APC and TFPI-independent anticoagulant functions. 10. Transport and release of insulin granules during biphasic insulin secretion
Sammanfattning : Glucose-evoked insulin secretion exhibits two phases: The first phase represents exocytosis of insulin granules situated at the plasma membrane, whereas the second phase reflects insulin release from granules continuously recruited to the plasma membrane. This thesis investigates different aspects of phasic insulin secretion, with the specific aims to elucidate the possible contribution of insulin granule transport, as well as to study the influence of the nucleotides cAMP and NADPH to this process.
