  1. 16. Molecular machinery of a membrane-bound proton pump : Studies of charge transfer reactions in cytochrome c oxidase

    Författare :Emelie Svahn; Peter Brzezinski; Ville Kaila; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein; respiration; redox reaction; cytochrome aa3; cytochrome c oxidase; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : In cellular respiration, electron transfer from the breakdown of foodstuff is coupled to the formation of an electrochemical proton gradient. This is accomplished through proton translocation by respiratory complexes, and the proton gradient is subsequently used e.g. to drive ATP production. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods. 3. 18. Quantitation, Purification and Reconstitution of the Red Blood Cell Glucose Transporter GLUT1

    Författare :Shusheng Zuo; Bengt Mannervik; Bengt Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Cholesterol; Cytochalasin B; Glucose; GLUT1; Hummel and Dreyer analysis; Immobilization; PEG 5000 -DSPE; Biomembrane; Proteoliposome; Quantitative frontal affinity chromatography; Red blood cell streptavidin-biotin immobilization; Sulfhydryl affinity chromatography; The modified micro-Bradford CaPE assay; MALDI-ToF-MS; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 facilitates glucose to be accumulated on the other side of the cell membrane. The functional state of GLUT1 is uncertain due to diversity of the reports. In this thesis, the activity of red blood cell GLUT1 was extensively studied to further characterize this protein. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Probing Proton Translocation in Influenza A/M2 Proteoliposomes - A systematic Approach to Membrane-Protein Reconstitutions

    Författare :Thom Leiding; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : An improved method for reconstituting membrane proteins into artificial liposomes for quantitative functional analysis is presented. A number of key parameters for reconstitution by detergent removal are assessed in this thesis: The lipid-to-protein ratio, the detergent-to-lipid ratio and the lipid and cholesterol composition. 5. 20. MAIT cells in placental tissues and their reconstitution following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

    Författare :Martin Solders; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The placenta is a temporary organ of human reproduction. Both the fetus and placenta are covered in a membrane of maternal origin, the decidua. After the 1st trimester, the fetus is supplied with oxygen and nutrients by maternal arterial blood that penetrates the decidua and fills the intervillous space of the placenta. LÄS MER
