16. Metal Affinity Peptides in Biotechnological Applications As tools in protein purification, protein stabilisation, metal quantification and metal tolerance of bacteria and plants
Sammanfattning : Metal affinity tags have been fused to proteins and demonstrated to function as tools in protein purification, protein stabilisation, quantitative metal analysis and metal tolerance of bacteria and plants. In biotechnological applications proteins frequently have to function in nonnatural environments with harsh conditions which impose requirements for high stability on the proteins. LÄS MER
17. Selenoproteins in the Bovine Mammary Gland. Regulation of mRNA and Protein Expression
Sammanfattning : Selenium is a micronutrient that is essential for many important life processes due to the action of the specific selenoproteins containing one or more of the 21st amino acid, selenocysteine. Twenty-five selenoprotein genes have been found in the human genome but the function of many of them is not yet known. LÄS MER
18. Nutrition in the second year of life. Effects of different milk compositions on dietary intakes, growth and metabolism
Sammanfattning : In the diet for young children, whole cow´s milk is the major contributor of calories, protein and saturated fat, but it supplies little iron and polyunsaturated fat. Although several recommendations exist for the composition of formula, recommendations for the composition of milk for young children are lacking. LÄS MER
19. Progesterone metabolites : learning, tolerance, antagonism & metabolism
Sammanfattning : Progesterone metabolites as allopregnanolone, isoallopregnanolone and tetrahydrodeoxy-corticosterone (THDOC) are increased in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, throughout pregnancy and during stress. Allopregnanolone and THDOC are neurosteroids with 3α-hydroxy, 5α-configurations and positive modulating effect on the GABAA receptor. LÄS MER
20. Protein Complexity via Non-Native States: Binding, Stability, and Structural Studies of Calbindin D9k and HAMLET (Human alpha-lactalbumin Made LEthal to Tumor cells)
Sammanfattning : Using optical spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and differential scanning Calorimetry (DSC), I have studied two different calcium binding proteins that can form kinetically trapped altered states. Calcium is very important in numerous biological processes such as blood coagulation, signal transduction, muscle contraction and bone formation. LÄS MER
