  1. 11. Structural and functional properties of transthyretin

    Författare :Anders Karlsson; A. Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Salam Al-Karadaghi; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transthyretin; Amyloidosis; X-ray crystallography; Protein structure; Protein; Structural biology; Strukturbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The hereditary transthyretin (TTR) amyloidoses are rare, and in severe cases, fatal disorders caused by mutations in the TTR gene. The clinical picture is diverse, involving neuropathies and myopathies, and mainly depends on the causative mutation and the sites and rates of amyloid deposition. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Modulating Enzyme Functions by Semi-Rational Redesign and Chemical Modifications : A Study on Mu-class Glutathione Transferases

    Författare :Malena A Norrgård; Bengt Mannervik; Birgitta Tomkinson; Timothy Mantle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; protein redesign; semi-rational redesign; saturation mutagenesis; iterative saturation mutagenesis; chemical modification; Cys; Cys-X scanning; enzyme evolution; promiscuous; substrate selectivity; enantioselectivity; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Today, enzymes are extensively used for many industrial applications, this includes bulk and fine-chemical synthesis, pharmaceuticals and consumer products. Though Nature has perfected enzymes for many millions of years, they seldom reach industrial performance targets. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The Biological Importance of the Amino Acid Transporter SLC38A10 : Characterization of a Knockout Mouse

    Författare :Frida A. Lindberg; Robert Fredriksson; Erika Roman; Karin Nordenankar; Vootele Vöikar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solute carrier; SLC; SNAT10; SLC38A10; phenotyping; behavior; amino acids; knockout mouse model; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The biggest group of transporters, the solute carriers (SLCs), has more than 400 members, and about 30% of these are still orphan. In order to decipher their biological function and possible role in disease, there is a need for characterization of these. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Antiadhesive agents targeting uropathogenic Escherichia coli : Multivariate studies of protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions

    Författare :Andreas Larsson; Jan Kihlberg; Fredrik Almqvist; Mats Larhed; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Antibacterial; pili; antiadhesive agents; structure based design; statistical molecular design; 2-pyridone; amino acid derivative; galabiose; enaminone; SPR; ELISA; QSAR; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies directed towards development of novel antiadhesive agents, with particular emphasis on compounds that prevent attachment of bacteria to a host-cell. Three different proteins involved in the assembly or function of adhesive pili in uropathogenic Escherichia coli have been targeted either by rational structure based design or statistical molecular methods. 5. 15. Membrane Protein Biogenesis in Escherichia coli : A proteomics approach

    Författare :David Vikström; Jan-Willem de Gier; Eitan Bibi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SRP; YidC; SecE; Membrane protein biogenesis; protein targeting; 2D BN SDS-PAGE; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : In the bacterium Escherichia coli all proteins are synthesized in the cytoplasm. However, at least 25% of them then need to be exported to another cellular compartment where they exert their function. E. coli has several different targeting pathways to ensure the correct localization of its proteins. LÄS MER
