  1. 21. An experimental study of mediators in allergic bronchoconstriction with focus on eicosanoids

    Författare :Ewa Selg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Leukotrienes; prostaglandins; histamine; guinea pig lung; ovalbumin; mast cell; cyclooxygenase; airway smooth muscle; COX inhibitors; NSAIDs;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells have a central role in the inflammatory response in airways of both atopic and non-atopic asthmatics. The mast cell-derived mediators such as histamine, leukotriene C4 and prostaglandin D2, released upon activation of the cell, produce acute bronchoconstriction that is characteristic of the early asthmatic response (EAR), and contribute to the development of airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness following the initial reaction. 2. 22. mPGES-1 and the PGE2 pathway in arthritis

    Författare :Marie Westman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Prostaglandins; mPGES-1; PGES2; cyclooxygenase; rheumatoid arthritis; collagen induced arthritis; antirheumatic treatments; inflammation; synovial tissue; steroids; TNF blockade;

    Sammanfattning : Prostaglandins are a group of lipid mediators derived from essential fatty acids that act on cells in close proximity of their synthesis. Prostaglandins are produced in a cell specific manner by a variety of cells in response to physiological or pathological stimulation. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Nitric oxide and eicosanoids : significance and interactions during antigen-induced responses in peripheral lung tissue

    Författare :Anna-Karin Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nitric oxide; leukotrienes; prostaglandins; histamine; ovalbumin; contractions; distal lung; rat; human; guinea pig; precision-cut lung slices; mast cell;

    Sammanfattning : Asthma means difficulty in breathing and is described as a chronic, inflammatory disorder that produces narrowing of the lower respiratory tract. The allergen-induced asthmatic bronchoconstriction is primarily caused by an IgE-mediated release of the mast cell mediators, histamine and eicosanoids (leukotrienes and prostanoids). LÄS MER

  4. 24. Inflammatory response after cataract surgery : randomized controlled clinical and laboratory studies of different surgical techniques

    Författare :Carl-Gustaf Laurell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cataract extraction; phacoemulsification; inflammation; blood-aqueousbarrier; anti-inflammatory agents; heparin surface modified intraocular lens; fluorophotometry; prostaglandins; after-cataract; corneal oedema; lasers; comparative study; randomize;

    Sammanfattning : During the last few years the phacoemulsification technique for cataract extraction has improved considerably. Because of this development phacoemulsification has recently superseded extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) as the preferred method. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Inflammation and wound healing following photorefractive keratectomy

    Författare :Santiago Tomás Barberán; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Photorefractive keratectomy; excimer laser; inflammation; flare; prostaglandins; diclofenac; dexamethasone; pain; epithelial healing; corneal topography; growth factors; metalloproteinases; collagen; haze; haze distribution; Scheimpflug system; Laser Flare Meter; regression; reoperation; wound healing;

    Sammanfattning : This study comprises different aspects on the inflammatory and wound healing responses of the eye after Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK). The purpose was to provide basic information about the inflammatory reaction and the wound healing after surgery. PRK is considered a good technique for surgical correction of and moderate myopia.
