1. Wireless Multi-Sensor Feedback Systems for SportsPerformance Monitoring : Design and Development
Sammanfattning : Wireless applications have become a common part of daily life. Whether it is mobile phones, the Wi-Fi router at home, the keycard which has replaced the car key, a radio frequency identification access system to a building or a Bluetooth headset for your computer or phone, the means of modern wireless data exchange is an omnipresent technology. 2. Roller skis' rolling resistance and grip characteristics : influences on physiological and performance measures in cross-country skiers
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. The aim was also to study differences in skiing economy and efficiency between recreational skiers, female and male junior and senior elite cross-country skiers. LÄS MER
3. Movement Control after Stroke : Studies on Sit-to-walk and on the Relations between Clinical and Laboratory Measures
Sammanfattning : Aims: The principal aims of this research were 1) to extend existing knowledge of the everyday sit-to-walk (STW) transfer in subjects with stroke and in matched controls by exploring temporal, kinematic, and kinetic aspects, and 2) to investigate the relations between some clinical and laboratory measures of postural control and locomotion in stroke rehabilitation and research. Methods: Ten community-living subjects with stroke (mean age 59 years) and ten matched controls were enrolled in the STW studies (Studies I, II, and IV). LÄS MER
4. Methods for the Evaluation of Wingsails with a Crescent-Shaped Profile
Sammanfattning : Seaborne transportation accounts for a large proportion of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has stipulated that GHG emissions should be reduced by 50% before 2050 compared to 2018. The use of wind-assisted ship propulsion (WASP) is considered one of the most effective ways to reduce GHG emissions. LÄS MER
5. PHYSIOLOGICAL AND BIOMECHANICAL FACTORS DETERMINING CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING PERFORMANCE
Sammanfattning : Cross-country (c.c.) skiing is a complex sport discipline from both physiological and biomechanical perspectives, with varying course topographies that require different proportions of the involved sub-techniques to be utilised. A relatively new event in c. LÄS MER
