Sammanfattning : This study deals with questions about national identity and national consciousness in Sweden from the middle of the 17th to the second half of the 18th century. Rome and the emperor were two of the most important and conspicuous manifestations of Roman civilisation and power, around which much of late antique ideology of authority and legitimacy was formulated.
