  1. 1. Chronic pain : from the study of student attitudes and preferences to the in vitro investigation of a novel treatment strategy

    Författare :Linda Rankin; Christopher J. Fowler; Gisselle Gallego; Sofia Mattsson; Emmanuel Bäckryd; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HC-PAIRS; best-worst scaling; palmitoylethanolamine; N-acylthanolamines; oral lichen planus; prostaglandins; chronic pain; prolonged pain; chronic pain education; chronic pain management; medical students; attitudes;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic pain will affect one in five adults during their lifetime, and it exerts a heavy burden on society with major physiological, psychological, social, and economic impacts. The current chronic pain curriculum taught to medical students in most settings is fragmented, inconsistent and inadequate and a vast majority of general practitioners considered their undergraduate training in chronic pain incomplete. 2. 2. Pain among women : Prospective population studies from a biopsychosocial perspective on pain

    Författare :Johanna Thomtén; Örjan Sundin; Joaquim J. F. Soares; Bo Melin; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; psychosocial factors; pain; socio-economic status; quality of life; burnout; women;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the role of different psychosocial factors in the course of pain over time in a general population sample of women in Sweden. The main aim was to identify and quantify such factors as predictors of pain, pain-related disability and quality of life within a biopsychosocial framework for the understanding of the pain experience over time. 3. 3. Neuroinflammation and pain

    Författare :Linda Block; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuroinflammation; Pain; Persistant pain; Astrocytes; Morphine; Naloxone; Intrathecal administration;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Background: Persistent pain that remains long after the physiological trigger has been resolved is a disabling condition. A possible mechanism for the transition from acute physiological pain to persistent pain involves low-grade inflammation in the central nervous system, in which inflammatory-activated astrocytes play a significant role. 5. 5. Development of Substance P 1–7 Related Peptides and Peptidomimetics : Targeting Neuropathic Pain

    Författare :Anna Skogh; Anja Sandström; Christian Sköld; Rebecca Fransson; Philip Thompson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Substance P 1–7; Peptidomimetics; Solid-phase Peptide Synthesis SPPS ; Palladium catalysis; Carbonylation; Imidazole; Bioisostere; Neuropathic pain; Allodynia; Structure-activity relationships; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Sammanfattning : The neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg1-Pro2-Lys3-Pro4-Gln5-Gln6-Phe7-OH) and its amidated analogue SP1–7 amide, have displayed intriguing effects in experimental models for neuropathic pain acting on a specific, yet unknown SP1–7 target. The aim of this thesis was to design and synthesise SP1–7 related peptides and peptidomimetics, to be used as research tools to study the SP1–7 system, and to serve as drug leads in the neuropathic pain area.
