  1. 6. Computational Modeling of Cancer Progression

    Författare :Hossein Shahrabi Farahani; Jens Lagergren; Niko Beerenwinkel; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cancer progression; Bayesian networks; microRNA editing; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap; SRA - Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is a multi-stage process resulting from accumulation of genetic mutations. Data obtained from assaying a tumor only contains the set of mutations in the tumor and lacks information about their temporal order. Learning the chronological order of the genetic mutations is an important step towards understanding the disease. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Progression and Regression. Aspects of Advanced Swedish Students' Competence in English Grammar

    Författare :Monica Karlsson; Engelska; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Engelska språk och litteratur ; English language and literature; error gravity; proper noun; identification frame; genericness; the zero article; ‘idiomatic’ prepositional use; ‘systematic’ prepositional use; ‘basic’ prepositional use; non-contiguous subject-verb construction; contiguous subject-verb construction; subject-verb concord; fossilisation; restructuring of information; automatisation; interlanguage; cognitive second language acquisition theory; U-curve development; regression; progression; developmental pattern; relative frequency; error score; potential error; developmental continuum; advanced learner; Grammar; semantics; semiotics; syntax; Grammatik; semantik; semiotik; Applied linguistics; foreign languages teaching; sociolinguistics; Tillämpad lingvistik; undervisning i främmande språk; sociolingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates advanced Swedish students’ development of three grammatical phenomena: subject-verb concord, prepositions and article use in compositions and translations. In order to describe the students’ development of these categories, actual errors are related to potential errors forming so called ‘error scores’. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Using Trees to Capture Reticulate Evolution : Lateral Gene Transfers and Cancer Progression

    Författare :Ali Tofigh; Jens Lagergren; Mike Steel; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lateral Gene Tranfer; Horizontal Gene Transfer; Cancer Progression; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Computer science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : The historic relationship of species and genes are traditionally depicted using trees. However, not all evolutionary histories are adequately captured by bifurcating processes and an increasing amount of research is devoted towards using networks or network-like structures to capture evolutionary history. 4. 9. Genetic Analyses of Tumor Progression in Colorectal Cancer

    Författare :Kristina Lagerstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :colorectal cancer; tumor progression; microarray; DNA aberration; gene expression; microRNA; structural variation;

    Sammanfattning : Colorectal tumors are responsible for more than 600 000 deaths per year worldwide and thereby constitute the second most common cause of cancer related mortality. Early detection is related to improved prognosis and identification of genetic biomarkers would meliorate available diagnostic tools. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Ultrasound and atherosclerosis. Evaluation of methods, risk factors and intervention

    Författare :Jerker Persson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; validation; ultrasound; reproducibility; progression; plaque; intima-media thickness; intervention; atherosclerosis; epidemiology; cardiovascular risk factors; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of studying cardiovascular disease before the process leads to hard end-points has been recognised, and methods to quantify early atherosclerosis have been taken in use in many research centres around the world. An ultrasound method with a computer assisted image analysing system was developed in co-operation with the Wallenberg Laboratory for Cardiovascular Research and Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.
