6. Computational Modeling of Cancer Progression
Sammanfattning : Cancer is a multi-stage process resulting from accumulation of genetic mutations. Data obtained from assaying a tumor only contains the set of mutations in the tumor and lacks information about their temporal order. Learning the chronological order of the genetic mutations is an important step towards understanding the disease. LÄS MER
7. Progression and Regression. Aspects of Advanced Swedish Students' Competence in English Grammar
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates advanced Swedish students’ development of three grammatical phenomena: subject-verb concord, prepositions and article use in compositions and translations. In order to describe the students’ development of these categories, actual errors are related to potential errors forming so called ‘error scores’. LÄS MER
8. Using Trees to Capture Reticulate Evolution : Lateral Gene Transfers and Cancer Progression
Sammanfattning : The historic relationship of species and genes are traditionally depicted using trees. However, not all evolutionary histories are adequately captured by bifurcating processes and an increasing amount of research is devoted towards using networks or network-like structures to capture evolutionary history. 9. Genetic Analyses of Tumor Progression in Colorectal Cancer
Sammanfattning : Colorectal tumors are responsible for more than 600 000 deaths per year worldwide and thereby constitute the second most common cause of cancer related mortality. Early detection is related to improved prognosis and identification of genetic biomarkers would meliorate available diagnostic tools. LÄS MER
10. Ultrasound and atherosclerosis. Evaluation of methods, risk factors and intervention
Sammanfattning : The importance of studying cardiovascular disease before the process leads to hard end-points has been recognised, and methods to quantify early atherosclerosis have been taken in use in many research centres around the world. An ultrasound method with a computer assisted image analysing system was developed in co-operation with the Wallenberg Laboratory for Cardiovascular Research and Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.
