  1. 16. Effects of sex steroids and tamoxifen on VEGF in the breast

    Författare :Stina Garvin; Charlotta Dabrosin; Lars Holmgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; breast cancer; estradiol; MCF-7; microdialysis; nude mice; progesterone; sVEGFR-1; VEGFR-2; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Sex steroid exposure constitutes a risk factor for breast cancer, but little is known about the effects of sex steroids on factors mediating angiogenesis, the development of new blood vessels, in normal and malignant breast tissue. In this thesis we have investigated the effects of estradiol, progesterone, and the nonsteroidal anti-estrogen tamoxifen on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptors (VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2) in normal human breast tissue, endothelial cells, and breast cancer. 2. 17. On the biology of premenstrual dysphoria and panic disorder

    Författare :Hoi-Por Ho; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serotonin; reuptake inhibitor; estrogen; progesterone; irritability; respiration; estrus cycle; polymorphism; resident intruder model;

    Sammanfattning : Premenstrual dysphoria (PMD) afflicts 7% of all women of fertile age, and is characterized by symptoms such as irritability, sadness, and mood swings, appearing regularly before menstruation, and being of such severity that they markedly reduce quality of life. The symptoms are dependent of sex steroids, and seem to be under the influence of serotonin, since they respond to treatment with serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs). LÄS MER

  3. 18. Hormones and fluid balance during pregnancy, labor and post partum

    Författare :Anitha Risberg; Mats Sjöquist; Kerstin Olsson; Sven Lyrenäs; Karolina Kublickiene; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cortisol; estradiol; glucose; labour; osmolality; oxytocin; parturition; pregnancy; pregnancy-induced hypertension; progesterone; vasopressin; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to determine any association between plasma oxytocin and vasopressin concentrations and renal water and sodium excretion during normal pregnancy. In addition to investigate changes in concentrations of estradiol, progesterone, oxytocin, cortisol, and glucose in the blood before and in the nearest hours after delivery and if treatment with oxytocin affected these concentrations and the fluid balance during the different stages of labour. 4. 19. Neuroendocrine studies in patients with affective disorders

    Författare :Marie Bendix; Jussi Jokinen; Marie Bixo; Viktor Kaldo; Maria Petersson; Anna-Carin Wihlbäck; Wieslaw J. Cubala; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Affective disorder; Suicide attempt; Postpartum depression; Postpartum psychosis; Personality traits; Violence; Oxytocin; Insulin; Glucagon; Allopregnanolone; Progesterone; Estradiol;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Affective disorders are common and a major cause for increased disability and mortality worldwide. Exogenous stressors and biological variables, including neuroendocrine factors, are assumed to contribute to an increased vulnerability to mood dysregulation. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Ultrasound and molecular biomarkers for prediction of preterm delivery in different risk groups of singleton pregnancies

    Författare :Tove Wikström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cervical length measurement; preterm birth; ; second trimester; screening; cost-effectiveness analyzes; progesterone; human microbiome; ; transcriptome; gene expression profiles; microRNA;

    Sammanfattning : Ultrasound and molecular biomarkers for prediction of preterm delivery in women with a singleton pregnancy Tove Wikström Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Institute of Clinical Sciences Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg Gothenburg, Sweden Background: Preterm delivery (PTD) is the leading cause of death in children under five years of age. Spontaneous PTD (sPTD) might be partly preventable by treating asymptomatic women having a short cervical length (CL) with vaginal progesterone. LÄS MER
