21. Prolactin receptor expression and prolactin-mediated effects in adipose tissue
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of functional prolactin receptors (PRLRs) in white adipose tissue of mice and humans, and the possible functions mediated via PRLRs. In mouse white adipose tissue, three PRLR mRNA isoforms, L-, S2-, and S3-PRLR, and L-PRLR protein expression were detected. LÄS MER
22. Effects of neuroactive steroids on the recombinant GABAA receptor in Xenopus oocyte
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Neuroactive steroids represent a class of both synthetic and naturally occurring steroids that have an effect on neural function. In addition to classical genomic mechanism by the hormones progesterone, deoxycorticosterone and testosterone 3α-OH metabolites of these hormones enhance GABAA receptor through rapid non-genomic mechanism. 23. Hormone-related dietary factors and estrogen/progesterone-receptor defined postmenopausal breast cancer
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer among women in Western countries including Sweden. It has been hypothesized that ovarian hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone may, at least partly, play an important role in the etiology of breast cancer. LÄS MER
24. Progesterone receptor modulators in contraception : clinical implications of ovarian and endometrial effects
Sammanfattning : Background: Emergency contraception (EC) offers a last chance to prevent an unwanted pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse (UPSI) but before pregnancy occurs, for example after contraceptive failure, non-use of contraception or after rape. Progesterone receptor modulators (PRMs) exert their effect through acting as partial antagonists and partial agonists of the progesterone receptor (PR) and have proven effective for EC in low doses by postponing or inhibiting ovulation if it was taken preovulatory in the menstrual cycle. 25. Neuromolecular and behavioural profile of teleosts : - effects of boldness, agonistic behaviour and reproductive status
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates if boldness is reflected in the function of brain histaminergic system in zebrafish (Danio rerio). Moreover, behavioural differences in AB line, spiegeldanio (spd) line and wild caught strain of zebrafish have also been explored apart from the winner-loser effect in AB and spd fish. LÄS MER
