Sammanfattning : Coagulation factor V (FV) is activated by thrombin through proteolytic cleavage at Arg-709, Arg-1018 and Arg-1545. Upon thrombin activation, the active form of factor V (FVa) is formed. FVa functions as a cofactor to factor Xa in the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin during coagulation. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Platelets are important players in the hemostatic system, acting as guardians of vessel integrity. When they come across a breach in the vessel wall, they quickly adhere to the damaged surface, secrete activating and adhesive compounds from their secretory granules, recruit additional platelets into a growing platelet plug and support the action of the coagulation system. Sammanfattning : High-density lipoprotein (HDL) has anti-atherogenic properties and the plasma level of HDL cholesterol correlates inversely with the risk of coronary artery disease. The atheroprotective functions of HDL can be explained by its function in the reverse cholesterol transport. LÄS MER
4. The regulation of factor Va activity by activated protein C -Importance of the individual activated protein C cleavage sites in factor Va
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is the activated protein C (APC)-mediated inactivation of factor Va. The activated form of factor V (FVa) is a procoagulant cofactor for Factor Xa (FXa) in the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin. LÄS MER
5. Platelet dysfunction in diabetes mellitus : Impact of hyperglycemia and glycoprotein GPIIb/IIIa inhibition
Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, due to diabetic angiopathy. Hyperglycemia is one of the factors that may cause platelet dysfunction in diabetic patients. This work investigated mechanisms underlying hyperglycemia-induced platelet dysfunction, and its impact in DM patients. LÄS MER
