    Sammanfattning : The central theme of this thesis is the Christianization of Iceland during the period from the late 10th century to the turn of the 12th century. The distinct, though similar, branches of Christianity are traced through the archaeological record, where the excavation of an Early Medieval timber church and graveyard at Thórarinsstadhir in Seydhisfjördhur is used as a basic source.     Sammanfattning : About 90 per cent of the medieval churches in the Province of Uppland remain more or less intact, and no less than one hundred of them are quite unchanged since the Late Middle Ages.     Sammanfattning : Up to the middle of the 19th century the distribution of mail, public as well as private, was, to a large extent, a duty imposed on farmers. Demands from farmers to be relieved of this duty resulted in the Government giving the Post Office authority to set up post offices of a new, relatively simple kind (poststationer, or sub-post offices).     Sammanfattning : The basis for this thesis is mainly gathered from Lund University’s Archives of Ecclesiastical History, LUKA. Questionnaires called ”kyrklig sed” are frequently emitted to all Swedish parishes to document different customs within the church. Since 1962 they also contain questions about cribs in the churches.
