  1. 1. Hormonal regulation of liver and tumor growth

    Författare :Ville Wallenius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Liver; cytokine; interleukin-6; tumor necrosis factor; primary liver growth promoter; cyproterone acetate; nafenopin; hepatocyte growth factor; HGF receptor; tumor; sarcoma; N-terminal; truncated;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the regulatory functions of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) on liver growth, and the importance of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and the HGF receptor (Met) for growth of mesenchyme-derived tumors. The studies on different types of liver growth, measured as weight, DNA and protein content, and DNA synthesis, were performed on mice lacking the IL-6 or the TNF receptor-1 gene back-crossed to the C57bl/6 strain. 2. 2. Studies on growth hormone induced female-characteristic gene transcription in rat liver

    Författare :Cissi Gardmo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Growth hormone; liver; gene expression; sex differentiation; in vivo transfection; primary hepatocytes;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) secretion is sexually dimorphic, which has an impact on hepatic gene expression. This is particularly pronounced in rats but has also been demonstrated in other species, including humans. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on growth hormone regulation of the CYP2C12 gene in rat liver

    Författare :Hanna Helander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) is secreted from the pituitary gland in a sexually dimorphic manner in the rat. This leads to a sexual dimorphism in the expression of a number of hepatic GH-target genes including members of the cytochrome P450 (CYP) family. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of cytochrome P4502C7 : effects of growth hormone and vitamin A

    Författare :Stefan Westin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :P450; growth hormone; vitamin A; gene regulation; orphan receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Members of the CYP2C subfamily, highly represented in rat liver, are constitutively expressed genes that encode enzymes that metabolize endogenous substrates such as steroids. Expression of P4502C11 and P4502C12 in rat liver is regulated in a sex-specific manner that ultimately depends on the sexually differentiated secretory pattern of GH release. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genomic imprinting and DNA epigenetic modification in human liver and carcinogenesis : regulation of the IGF2 and H19 genes

    Författare :Xuri Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Genomic imprinting, which is an non-classical genetic event discovered approximately a decade ago, has been shown to be involved in the mammalian development and several kinds of human diseases. Epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation, are believed to be markers functioning as the imprinting signals. LÄS MER
