1. The burden of stroke in Sweden : studies on costs and quality of life based on Riks-Stroke, the Swedish stroke register
Sammanfattning : The costs for stroke management and reduced health related quality of life (QoL) can extend throughout life as mental and physical disabilities are common. The aim of this thesis was to quantify this stroke-related burden with data from Riks-Stroke (RS), the Swedish stroke register. LÄS MER
2. Rye bread in Sweden : Health-related and sensory qualities, consumer perceptions and consumption patterns
Sammanfattning : Rye bread has shown potential as a health-beneficial component in the diet, especially in relation to non-communicable diseases. To have a beneficial effect in reality, however, it also needs to be available, chosen and eaten. Less research has focused on rye bread from a consumer perspective. LÄS MER
3. Functional mapping of somatosensory cortices in the human brain
Sammanfattning : Tactile perception is a remarkable ability that enables us to recognise objects and handle tools. Cortical processing during tactile and shape perception in humans is not fully understood. LÄS MER
4. Single-cell methodologies for ecological and metabolic mapping of mixotrophic microeukaryotes
Sammanfattning : Mixotrophy in aquatic protists is pivotal for our understanding of aquatic microbial food web dynamics. This thesis is centered around aquatic unicellular mixotrophs, and comprises three methodological approaches aimed to tackle mixotroph ecology at single-cell resolution: the identification of actively feeding mixotrophs in natural samples, the determination of specific interactions among mixotrophs and bacterial prey, and the profiling of two distinct mixotrophic populations based on the gene expression of their constitutive individuals. 5. Linking biodiversity and recreational merits of urban green spaces : methodological development
Sammanfattning : Urban green spaces play an important role in promoting both biodiversity and human recreation. This thesis therefore attempted to link biodiversity and recreational values of urban green spaces through an interdisciplinary research of trade-offs and synergies between biodiversity conservation and human recreation.
