1. Background aEEG/EEG measures in very preterm infants : Relation to physiology and outcome
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to characterize single-channel aEEG/EEG, recorded during the first postnatal days in preterm infants, in relation to brain function and two-year outcome. Study I investigated if aEEG/EEG was associated with neonatal brain injury, inflammation and outcome in 16 very preterm (VPT) infants. LÄS MER
2. Antiarrhythmic and arrhythmic effects of an Ikr-blocking class III agent. A clinical and electrocardiographic study of almokalant
Sammanfattning : The interest in class III drugs has increased over the last decades as being potent antiarrhythmic agents in their mode of action by prolongation of repolarization and with no effect on conduction. Class I antiarrhythmic agents have proven effective in conversion of atrial fibrillation (AF), but may cause serious proarrhythmia. LÄS MER
3. Prediction of Spontaneous Preterm Birth : Clinical and Immunological Aspects
Sammanfattning : Background: Preterm birth (PTB), defined as birth before 37 weeks of gestation, accounts for most neonatal death and morbidity. Accurate prediction is a pre-requisite for the prevention and proper management of PTB. However, methods for prediction are unsatisfactory, although sonographic cervical length has a moderate predictive value. LÄS MER
4. Aspects in mammographic screening : Detection, prediction, recurrence and prognosis
Sammanfattning : Screening mammograms comprising of 32 first round, 10 interval and 32 second round detected cancers and 46 normal were examined by an expert screener, a screening radiologist, a clinical radiologist and a computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD) system. The expert screener, screening radiologist, clinical radiologist and the CAD detected 44, 41, 34 and 37 cancers, respectively, while their respective specificities were 80%, 83%, 100% and 22%. 5. Risk Factors and Predictors of Heart Failure: from Incidence to Prognosis
Sammanfattning : Background: Heart failure (HF) is a major public health problem affecting at least 26 million people worldwide and one of the leading causes of disability and death. Aims: To identify characteristics associated with improved or worsened prognosis in patients with established HF and to study factors associated with higher risk for the incidence of HF in the general population.
