The aim of this thesis is the development and characterization of controlled release formulations based on thermo-reversible poloxamer gels, which are suitable for novel drug delivery applications.     Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Background: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS), also recognized as “stress-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC)” and “broken heart syndrome”, is an acute cardiac failure syndrome characterized by transient regional ventricular akinesia or hypokinesia, and often presents similarly to acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In contrast to AMI, the characteristic regional myocardial akinesia in TTS does not involve a culprit coronary artery. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : J1 (L-melphalanyl-L-p-fluorophenylalanyl ethyl ester) is a dipeptide derivative of the alkylating agent melphalan with increased cytotoxicity. In this thesis the preclinical pharmacology of J1 has been characterized.Our results show that J1 rapidly enters the cells, where melphalan is released by hydrolysis. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Although, pulmonary drug delivery is a well established means for targeting of drugs to the lungs for the treatment of respiratory diseases as well as for the systemic delivery of volatile anesthetic agents, drug absorption kinetics in the lung have not been subjected to extensive research. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate drug absorption characteristics of the lung barrier, using the isolated and perfused rat lung model and in vivo pharmacokinetic studies in rats.
