1. Solid-State Nanopores for Sensing : From Theory to Applications
Sammanfattning : Nanopore based sensing technology has been widely studied for a broad range of applications including DNA sequencing, protein profiling, metabolite molecules, and ions detection. The nanopore technology offers an unprecedented technological solution to meeting the demands of precision medicine on rapid, in-field, and low-cost biomolecule analysis. LÄS MER
2. A Treatise on Measuring Wiener-Granger Causality
Sammanfattning : Wiener-Granger causality is a well-established concept of causality based on stochasticity and the flow of time, with applications in a broad array of quantitative sciences. The majority of methods used to measure Wiener-Granger causality are based on linear premises and hence insensitive to non-linear signals. LÄS MER
3. Power Doppler - Principles and Potential Clinical Applications
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this work was to: a) Determine whether the amount of colour in a power Doppler image is dependent on the angle between the examined vessel and the soundbeam and/or on the velocity of the flow within the vessel; b) Investigate if a dependency on flow velocity could be used for the detection of volume flow differences and c) Define clinical applications utilising the improved sensitivity to low flow of PD.In the experimental studies (study I and II) a silicon tube in a water bath was insonated, the insonation angle and the volume flow changed and the resulting images stored, transferred to a personal computer and analysed with regard to the amount of colour present in the image. 4. On the Aggregation of Cereal β-Glucan and its Association with other Biomolecules : A Study using Asymmetric Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (AF4)
Sammanfattning : During recent years, numerous studies have shown the ability of dietary fiber toprotect the colon from disease and to improve intestinal health. Beneficial healtheffects, such as the lowering of blood cholesterol levels and a reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease, are often directly related to cereal β-glucan, one of the major components of dietary fiber found in oat and barley. 5. Subcultures and Small Groups : A Social Movement Theory Approach
Sammanfattning : This dissertation uses social movement theory to analyze the emergence, activities and development of subcultures and small groups. The manuscript is comprised of an Introduction followed by three journal articles and one book chapter. LÄS MER
