  1. 1. Improvements of the Bromodeoxyuridine-DNA Flow Cytometry Method for the Study of Cell Proliferation

    Författare :Maria C Johansson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; head and neck cancer; [3H]thymidine; energy transfer; cell cycle; xenografted tumours; cultured cells; potential doubling time; labelling index; DNA synthesis time; cell proliferation; growth kinetics; Bromodeoxyuridine; DNA flow cytometry; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology;

    Sammanfattning : Potential doubling time (Tpot), DNA synthesis time (TS), and labelling index (LI) are fundamental growth kinetics parameters in clinical and experimental cancer research, which may be of further practical importance regarding prognosis and treatment prediction of cancer. They can be measured by bromodeoxyuridine(BrdUrd)/flow cytometry (FCM) methods, where BrdUrd, an analogue of thymidine, is incorporated into DNA and quantified simultaneously with the DNA content. 2. 2. Multi-Photon Interactions with a Time Structure

    Författare :Alexander Baev; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :nonlinear optics; two-photon absorption; mirrorless lasing; charge-transfer chromophores; solutions; resonant photoemission; life-time vibrational interference; scattering duration time; electron Doppler effect; polymers;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis concerns aspects of the interaction ofmatter in gas, liquid and solid phases, with electromagneticradiation, ranging from the optical to the X-ray region. Overthe last decade the availability of ultrashort strong laserpulses as well as of high power synchrotron sources of tunableX-ray radiation has stimulated a rapid development of newexperimental techniques which makes it possible to analysedifferent physical, chemical and biological processes inunprecedented detail. 3. 3. Biogas Production from Lignocellulosic Biomass : Impact of pre-treatment, co-digestion, harvest time and inoculation

    Författare :Chao LI; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :Anaerobic digestion; Lignocellulosic biomass; Pretreatment; Co-digestion; Inoculation;

    Sammanfattning : Biogas or methane production through anaerobic digestion (AD) is gaining increasing attention worldwide due to concerns over global warming, energy security and the need for sustainable waste management. AD of lignocellulosic biomass is one facet that is highly appreciated since the conflict over biomass for food/feed or energy can be avoided. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mass balance of perfluoroalkyl acids in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Marko Filipovic; Urs Berger; Michael McLachlan; Bert Ove Lund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFOA; PFOS; mass balance; Baltic Sea; PFOA; PFOS; massbalans; Östersjön; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are man-made chemicals. Their unique properties make them beneficial for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications, such as constituents in fire fighting foams, hydraulic oils and food packaging materials. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Systematics and polyploid evolution in Potentilleae (Rosaceae)

    Författare :Magnus Lundberg; Torsten Eriksson; Jürg Schönenberger; Bengt Oxelman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Potentilleae; Fragariinae; Potentilla; Sibbaldia; Fragaria; Alchemilla; systematics; phylogeny; polyploidy; autopolyploidy; allopolyploidy; reticulate evolution; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; växtsystematik; Plant Systematics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises studies of the phylogenetic relationships in the flowering plant clade Potentilleae in Rosaceae. The relationships were elucidated by using DNA sequence data from the nuclear genome as well as from the plastid genome. In particular, the focus of the studies was the investigation of allopolyploidy, i.e. LÄS MER
