  1. 1. Metabolic and Endocrine Responses to Nocturnal Eating

    Författare :Ulf Holmbäck; Linda Morgan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nutrition; postprandial; substrate utilization; circadian; hormones; mood; Näringslära; Nutrition; Näringslära; Nutrition; näringslära;

    Sammanfattning : An increasing amount of people have their work hours displaced to the night and there are indications that shift work and other irregular working schedules are associated with an increased risk of developing the metabolic syndrome and other pathological conditions. It is therefore important to address the consequences of eating at irregular hours, especially nighttime. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Spices in the postprandial metabolic regulation of healthy humans : An integrated physiological and omics approach

    Författare :Yoghatama Cindya Zanzer; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :Spices; Postprandial; Glycemia; Lipemia; Appetite regulation; Metabolic endotoxemia; Bile acids; Transcriptomics; Nutrigenomics;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a consequence of obesity and defined as cluster of at least three out of five criteria covering insulin resistance/glucose intolerance, abdominal obesity, hypertension, low HDL-c and elevated TG levels. Imbalance between energy intake and expenditure is known to alter normal physiological function in many aspects, and leads to obesity, which in the long run may turn into type 2 diabetes (T2D) and ultimately cardiovascular disease (CVD). 3. 3. Carbohydrate-Rich Foods in the Treatment of the Insulin Resistance Syndrome : Studies of the Importance of the Glycaemic Index and Dietary Fibre

    Författare :Anette Järvi; Gabriele Riccardi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; diabetes; insulin resistance; carbohydrates; starch; glycaemic index; dietary fibre; postprandial; second-meal; glucose; insulin; triacylglycerol; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : The glycaemic responses to various carbohydrate-rich foods are partly dependent on the rate at which the carbohydrate is digested and absorbed. The glycaemic index (GI) is a way of ranking foods according to their glycaemic response and is recommended as a useful tool in identifying starch-rich foods that give the most favourable glycaemic response. 4. 4. Characterisation of Dietary Fibre Properties to Optimise the Effects on Human Metabolism and the Transcriptome

    Författare :Matilda Ulmius; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; field-flow fractionation; gastrointestinal method; aggregation; solubilisation; pectin; β-glucan; sugar beet fibre; Oats; rye; postprandial responses; microarray gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : It is well established that dietary fibre, especially soluble dietary fibre, has beneficial effects and can prevent diseases associated with the modern lifestyle. This has been explained by the viscous effects of soluble fibre, which can reduce or delay the absorption of carbohydrates and fat in the small intestine, resulting in lower blood concentrations of glucose, insulin and cholesterol. 5. 5. ALPHA-LINOLENIC ACID Postprandial Lipid Metabolism and Enzymatic Interesterification of Triacylgylcerols

    Författare :Julia Svensson; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alpha-linolenic acid; triacylglycerol; postprandial lipemia; Lipozyme TL IM; interesterification;

    Sammanfattning : An important indicator of the metabolic capacity of humans is the ability to regulate plasma triacylglycerol levels and to clear triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) from the circulation after a meal. This is crucial since most of the day is spent in the postprandial state. LÄS MER
