  1. 16. Importance of renal function in cardiac surgery

    Författare :Alain Dardashti; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute kidney injury; eGFR; Transfusion; Mortality; Erythropoietin; Cardiac surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious complication after cardiothoracic surgery and is associated with increased short- and long-term mortality risk. Despite extensive studies in the field, a comprehensive understanding of this syndrome has remained elusive, partly due to divergent definitions of AKI and partly due to the limitations of available routine biomarkers to predict, prevent, and detect AKI. 2. 17. Effects of gastric bypass surgery in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Vasileios Liakopoulos; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gastric bypass; bariatric surgery; obesity; type 2 diabetes mellitus; cardiovascular disease; mortality; risk factors; renal disease; adverse events;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (GBP) have not been adequately explored in patients with concurrent obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) to the same extent as has occurred for individuals with obesity alone. The overall aim of this thesis is to thoroughly examine the effects of GBP surgery in patients with obesity and T2DM in terms of cardiovascular disease and mortality, changes in various comorbidities, risk factors, and renal function as well as reporting adverse events. 3. 18. Periprosthetic Joint Infections. Clinical and Epidemiological Aspects

    Författare :Olof Thompson; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prosthetic joint infection; arthroplasty; Streptococcus; Enterococcus; register; mortality;

    Sammanfattning : Periprostheteic joint infection (PJI) is a rare complication of arthroplasty with severe consequences for the affected patients. PJI most often necessitates additional surgery and prolonged courses of antibiotic treatment, leading to worse functional results and increased societal costs. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Early detection of major surgical postoperative complications evaluated by microdialysis

    Författare :Tal Hörer; Kjell Janson; Lars Norgren; Bengt Jeppsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aortic occlusion balloon; anastomotic leakage; glycerol; intraabdominal hypertension; intraperitoneal microdialysis; intestinal ischemia; intraabdominal metabolism; lactate pyruvate ratio; postoperative complications; ruptured abdominal aortic anerusym; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Major abdominal surgery may be followed by postoperative complications, especially in the elderly and patients with co morbidities as diabetes mellitus and obesity. Some of the most feared complications as anastomotic leakage, abdominal infections, abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) and intestinal ischemia can lead to sepsis, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) with high morbidity and mortality. 5. 20. Femoral and Inguinal Hernia : How to Minimize Adverse Outcomes Following Repair

    Författare :Ursula Dahlstrand; Ulf Gunnarsson; Gabriel Sandblom; Staffan Wollert; Andrew Kingsnorth; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; femoral hernia; inguinal hernia; adverse outcome; complication; recurrence; chronic pain; long-term pain; emergency; mortality; TEP; Lichtenstein; local anesthesia; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Groin hernia is common, and each year 200 repairs per 100 000 adult inhabitants are performed in Sweden. Groin hernias are either inguinal or femoral (2-4%). Elective repair is not associated with an excess mortality, but adverse outcomes include recurrence and long-term pain. LÄS MER
