  1. 1. Surgery for aortic stenosis : with special reference to myocardial metabolism, postoperative heart failure and long-term outcome

    Författare :Farkas Vánky; Rolf Svedjeholm; Dan Lindblom; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Aortic stenosis; Surgery; Postoperative heart failure; Long-term outcome; Metabolism; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Postoperative heart failure (PHF) remains a major determinant of the outcome after cardiac surgery. However, characteristics of and risk factors for PHF after valve surgery have received little attention. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Heart Valve Surgery : Preoperative Assessment and Clinical Outcome

    Författare :Laila Hellgren; Elisabeth Ståhle; Mårten Rosenquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Heart valve surgery; magentic resonance imaging; echocardiography; operative mortality; survival; complications; quality of life; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : A more global analysis of the outcome of heart valve surgery is desirable to reflect the actual benefit for the patient. This thesis focuses on the preoperative assessment of the patient, and the outcome after surgery with regard to operative mortality, long-term survival, valve-related complications, and quality of life. 3. 3. Long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on cardiovascular disease and cancer

    Författare :Johan Rosell; John Carstensen; Olle Stål; Bo Nordenskjöld; Lars Holmberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adjuvant; adverse events; breast cancer; cerebrovascular disease; coronary heart disease; heart failure; lung cancer; second primary cancer; tamoxifen;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on breast cancer recurrence and mortality, cardiovascular disease, and the incidence of secondary cancer.Between 1982 and 1992, postmenopausal patients with early stage breast cancer were included in a randomized clinical study of 2 or 5 years of postoperative tamoxifen therapy. 4. 4. NT-proBNP as a marker of postoperative heart failure in adult cardiac surgery

    Författare :Huiqi Jiang; Rolf Svedjeholm; Yanqi Yang; Jonas Holm; Farkas Vanky; Johan Nilsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Postoperative heart failure (PHF) remains the major cause of mortality after cardiac surgery. Unfortunately, generally accepted diagnostic criteria for PHF are lacking. This may explain why the evidence for the efficacy and safety of current treatment of PHF with inotropes is insufficient. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Glutamate for metabolic intervention in coronary surgery : with special reference to the GLUTAMICS-trial

    Författare :Mårten Vidlund; Rolf Svedjeholm; Torbjörn Ivert; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery bypass; cardiac surgery; acute coronary syndrome; glutamate; metabolic intervention; postoperative heart failure; myocardial recovery; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Myocardial ischemia is a major cause of postoperative heart failure and adverse outcome in coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). Conventional treatment of postoperative heart failure with inotropic drugs may aggravate underlying ischemic injury. LÄS MER
