  1. 21. Methods for Testing and Analyzing Lithium-Ion Battery Cells intended for Heavy-Duty Hybrid Electric Vehicles

    Författare :Pontus Svens; Göran Lindbergh; Mårten Behm; Søren Juhl Andreasen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Li-ion; battery; hybrid electric vehicle; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Lithium-ion batteries designed for use in heavy-duty hybrid vehicles are continuously improved in terms of performance and longevity, but they still have limitations that need to be considered when developing new hybrid vehicles.               The aim of this thesis has been to study and evaluate potential test and analysis methods suitable for being used in the design process when maximizing lifetime and utilization of batteries in heavy-duty hybrid vehicles. 2. 22. The role of mTor in the pathogenesis of tau-related pathologies in Alzheimer disease

    Författare :Zhi Tang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : An important neurophathological hallmark of Alzheimer disease (AD) is the progressive formation of neurofibrillary tangles composed of aberrant hyperphosphorylated tau aggregates. Evidence from human postmortem AD brains and in vitro and in vivo rapamycin-treated drug models implicated an abnormal accumulation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTor) in AD brains. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Influence of kynurenic acid on dopamine neurotransmission : implications for schizophrenia

    Författare :Alexandra Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Kynurenic acid (KYNA) belongs to the kynurenines, a group of metabolically related compounds derived from the amino acid tryptophan. It is an antagonist of glutamate- and α7 nicotinic acetylcholine (α7nACh) receptors. Increased levels of KYNA have been observed in the cerebrospinal fluid and postmortem brains of patients with schizophrenia. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Genetic studies of two inherited human phenotypes : Hearing loss and monoamine oxidase activity

    Författare :Jorune Balciuniene; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; linkage analysis; hearing loss; digenic inheritance; allelic association; monoamine oxidase; human genetic diversity; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the identification of genetic factors underlying two inherited human phenotypes: hearing loss and monoamine oxidase activity. Non-syndromic hearing loss segregating in a Swedish family was tested for linkage to 13 previously reported candidate loci for hearing disabilities. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Towards cell replacement therapy in Parkinson’s disease. Proteoglycans and Nogo-A as modulators of axonal growth in midbrain dopaminergic neurons

    Författare :Zuzanna Kurowska; Neural plasticitet och reparation; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LUHMES cells; substantia nigra pars compacta; microarray; heparan sulphate 3-O-sulfotransferase; neurocan; midbrain dopaminergic neurons; grafting; embryonic stem cells; proteoglycans; glycosaminoglycans; Nogo-A; cell replacement therapy; Parkinson’s disease;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is currently the second most common neurodegenerative disorder (after Alzheimer’s disease). PD is diagnosed on its motor symptoms, which include akinesia, bradykinesia, rigidity, postural imbalance and resting tremor. It is well established that the motor symptoms develop due to lack of dopamine in the striatum. LÄS MER
