  1. 16. Candidate genes and the dopamine system : possible implications in complex neurological and psychiatric disease

    Författare :Silvia Buervenich; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Genetic; linkage; association; dopamine; Parkinsons disease; schizophrenia; bipolar disease; retinoid; aldehyde; toxicity.;

    Sammanfattning : The mesencephalic dopamine (DA) system is strongly involved in the pathogenesis of Parkinsons disease (PD), where symptoms occur after the loss of the vast majority of DA neurons. An involvement of this system also in schizophrenia (SZ) and bipolar disease (BD) is suggested by the fact that DA receptor antagonists are among the most potent drugs in clinical use for the treatment of these conditions. 2. 17. Somatostatin neurotransmission : studies on experimentally induced cognitive changes and Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Lars Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer s disease Adenylyl cyclase Autoradiography Behavior Cerebral cortex DemenbaEnvironment Ibotenic acid lesion In-situ hybridization Learning Neuropeptides Northern blot Nucleus basalismagnocellularis Posttranslational processing Rat Recepto;

    Sammanfattning : Several neuropeptides are widely distributed in regions of the central nervous system (CNS) which are associated with cognitive functions. Multiple studies on postmortem Alzheimer's disease (AD) brains have shown depleted neuropeptide content and morphological abnormalities of somatostatin (SS)-containing interneurons in the hippocampus and the cerebral cortex. 3. 18. On neuroinflammation in psychotic disorders

    Författare :Carl Sellgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Neuroinflammation has been implicated in several psychiatric conditions. Based on experimental studies, the glia-derived tryptophan metabolite kynurenic acid (KYNA) may be especially relevant for positive psychotic symptoms and impaired executive functioning. LÄS MER

  4. 19. On mapping the human somatosensory cortex : fMRI and PET imaging

    Författare :Jeremy Young; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Mapping; anatomy; connectivity; somatosensory; attention; organisation; somatotopy; fMRI; PET; rCBF; cytoarchitecture.;

    Sammanfattning : This work is based on experiments and simulations for the purpose of mapping the human somatosensory cortex. By using a combination of structural mapping (cytoarchitecture), connectivity mapping, functional mapping, and somatotopical mapping an overview of the organisation of the human somatosensory cortex at different levels is possible. 5. 20. Assessment of bio-based fuel ash effects on magnesia refractory materials in quicklime production kilns

    Författare :Naresh Kumar Wagri; Britt M. Andersson; Markus Carlborg; Markus Broström; Matias Eriksson; Bengt-Johan Skrifvars; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Refractory corrosion; ash slag intrusion; lime kiln; MgO refractory; coal ash; olive pomace ash; biomass fuel; crushing strength; potassium K ; silicon Si .; Materials Science; materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Limestone is calcined into quicklime in lime kilns at temperatures above 1000°C. Heat is supplied through combustion inside the kilns, which are insulated with a lining of refractory bricks to mitigate heat loss and to protect the kiln from the hot, chemically aggressive, and mechanically abrasive environment.
