11. Neuronal nicotinic receptor subtypes in normal ageing, Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia : influences of neuropathological mechanisms as studied in human autopsy brain and transgenic mice
Sammanfattning : Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are transmitter-gated ion channel receptors which are widely distributed in the brain. They mediate the effects of several neurotransmitters including ACh, DA, 5-HT and NA and are important for many normal physiological functions in the brain and are also implicated in a number of CNS disorders, such as AD, PD, schizophrenia, Tourette's syndrome and familial epilepsy. 12. The Corporeality of Death : Bioarchaeological, Taphonomic, and Forensic Anthropological Studies of Human Remains
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work is to advance the knowledge of peri- and postmortem corporeal circumstances in relation to human remains contexts, as well as to demonstrate the value of that knowledge in forensic and archaeological practice and research. This article-based dissertation encompasses papers in bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology, with an emphasis on taphonomy. LÄS MER
13. Chiral and toxicological aspects of citalopram : an experimental study in rats
Sammanfattning : Citalopram (CIT) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which is used for the treatment of different psychiatric disorders. The indications for prescription of OT are linked to high risks for intentional intoxications. CIT is one of the most commonly found drugs in Swedish forensic autopsy cases. LÄS MER
14. Integration of functional genomics and data mining methodologies in the study of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia
Sammanfattning : Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are two severe psychiatric disorders characterized by a complex genetic basis, coupled to the influence of environmental factors. In this thesis, functional genomic analysis tools were used for the study of the underlying pathophysiology of these disorders, focusing on gene expression and function on a global scale with the application of high-throughput methods. 15. Modeling Amyloid-β Pathology in Alzheimer’s Disease Using the Arctic Mutation
Sammanfattning : The Arctic mutation in the Amyloid-β (Aβ) domain of the Amyloid-β precursor protein (APP) causes Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and confers unique biochemical characteristics to Aβ peptides. The aims of this thesis were to evaluate a transgenic model with the Arctic mutation, and to use it to gain new insights into the mechanisms of early (pre-plaque) and late-stage Aβ pathogenesis in AD.
