1. Some Investigations into the Class of Exponential Power Distributions
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, methods are developed relating to the exponential power class of distributions.Paper I considers Bayesian linear mixed models where the usual normality assumption is replaced by the multivariate exponential power distribution. Particular focus lies on Bayesian testing of the fixed effects. LÄS MER
2. Deep brain stimulation of the posterior subthalamic area in the treatment of movement disorders
Sammanfattning : Background: The posterior subthalamic area (PSA) is essentially composed of the caudal Zona incerta and the prelemniscal radiation. Subthalamotomy in the PSA was renowned for its effectiveness in alleviating movement disorders and particularly tremor. LÄS MER
3. Distribution of serotonin receptors and transporters in the human brain : implications for psychosis
Sammanfattning : The serotonin (5-HT) system is thought to be involved in different psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety disorders, and is a major target for the pharmacological treatment of these conditions. The involvement of the 5-HT system in psychosis has been suggested, as 5-HT receptor agonism is a common mechanism of different classes of hallucinogenic drugs and several antipsychotics are 5-HT receptor antagonists. 4. Variations in Functional Lateralization
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to study asymmetric activation of the neocortex in normal subjects, using the rCBF technique and different cognitive tasks. The aim was also to study individual and group variations of asymmetric activation, as well as factors pertaining to these variations. The thesis is based on four investigations. LÄS MER
5. Cerebral blood flow distribution, collateral function and pulsatility in healthy and in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis : a magnetic resonance imaging approach
Sammanfattning : Background: For the detection and treatment of early cerebral vascular disease it is of paramount importance to first understand the normal physiology of the cerebral vasculature, and subsequently, to understand how and when pathology can develop from that. This is especially important as the population above 65 years of age is increasing and aging itself is an established risk factor for the development of cerebral vascular disease. LÄS MER
