6. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Studies in Anxiety Disorders
Sammanfattning : Anxiety disorders are very common and the primary feature is abnormal or inappropriate anxiety. Fear and anxiety is often mediated by the amygdala, a brain structure rich in substance P (SP) and neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptors. LÄS MER
7. Imaging Islets of Langerhans by Positron Emission Tomography : Quantification of Beta-Cell Mass in the Native Pancreas and the Islet Graft
Sammanfattning : Type 1 and 2 Diabetes Mellitus are a growing health problem throughout the world. There is an increasing need for methodologies, which are both reliable and non-invasive to measure the amount of insulin-producing tissue (Beta-cell mass, or BCM), as well as rapidly quantify changes in the BCM due to the onset of disease, beta-cell replacement therapy, or other treatments. 8. Cerebral ischemia studied with positron emission tomography and microdialysis
Sammanfattning : Stroke is the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the industrialized world. Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), the least common form of stroke, is one of the most demanding diseases treated in neurointensive care units. Cerebral ischemia may develop rapidly, and has a major influence on outcome. LÄS MER
9. Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Techniques in Diabetes
Sammanfattning : In order to further advance the field of diabetes research there is a great need for establishing validated non-invasive quantitative techniques to study the pancreas and other tissues of importance for blood glucose regulation. The general aim of this thesis was to explore magnetic resonance techniques and positron emission tomography as such tools. LÄS MER
10. The PET sampling puzzle : intelligent data sampling methods for positron emission tomography
Sammanfattning : Much like a backwards computed Sudoku puzzle, starting from the completed number grid and working ones way down to a partially completed grid without damaging the route back to the full unique solution, this thesis tackles the challenges behind setting up a number puzzle in the context of biomedical imaging. By leveraging sparse signal processing theory, we study the means of practical undersampling of positron emission tomography (PET) measurements, an imaging modality in nuclear medicine that visualises functional processes within the body using radioactive tracers.
