1. Ions interacting with macromolecules : NMR studies in solution
Sammanfattning : Specific ion effects, identified for more than hundred years, play an important role in a wide range of phenomena and applications. Several mechanisms such as direct ion interaction with molecules have been suggested to explain these effects, but quantitative experimental evidence remains scarce. LÄS MER
2. Symmetry of Halonium Complexes in Solution
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the symmetry of two interaction types involving electropositive halogens have been studied in solution; the N-X+-N halogen bond (X = Br or I), and the C-X+-C interaction of previously characterised, cyclic, 1,2-bridged halonium ions (X = Cl or Br), respectively. The three N-X+-N model structures included are bispyridine, 1,2-bis(pyridine-2-ylethynyl)benzene and 1,2-bis((4-methylpyridin-2-yl)ethynyl)benzene halonium triflate complexes. LÄS MER
3. Metal-Chelate Complexes in Alkaline Solution : On Recovery Techniques and Cellulose-based Hybrid Material Synthesis
Sammanfattning : For decades, aminopolycarboxylate chelating agents have been extensively used in various industrial applications. The ability of chelating agents to form stable metal-chelate complexes is the main reason for using them to manage metal ions within water-based industrial processes. LÄS MER
4. Small and Large, Charged Molecules in Solution and at Interfaces
Sammanfattning : The influence of small and large, charged molecules on the properties of aqueous interfaces has important implications in chemistry, biology, and medicine. For example, at the surface of marine aerosols, the presence of halide anions and tropospheric gases gives way to multiphase chemical reactions affecting climate and air quality. LÄS MER
5. Chalcopyrite (Bio)leaching in Sulphate Solutions : An Investigation into Hindered Dissolution with a Focus on Solution Redox Potential
Sammanfattning : Chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) is the most abundant and the most economically important copper mineral. Increasing worldwide demand for copper accompanied by exhaustion of copper resources necessitate the development of new processes for treating lower-grade copper ores. LÄS MER
