1. Natural Convection Heat Transfer in a Horizontal Thermal Insulation Layer Underlying an Air Layer
Sammanfattning : In the thesis a study is made of the influence of natural convection on heat transfer in a composite system comprising a porous material heated from below and an air space situated above this. The measuring apparatus, a Wind Box which has been designed and developed at the Department of Building Physics is described. LÄS MER
2. Dielectric Properties of Liquid-Impregnated Porous Solids
Sammanfattning : Dielectric spectroscopy is a versatile tool that can often be used as a non-destructive, indirect way of measuring other important properties (such as content of crude oil or degree of curing of a resin). The dielectric properties of materials are thus of interest in several circumstances and not only for materials used for electrical purposes (such as electrical insulation). LÄS MER
3. Porous polymeric materials for chromatography : Synthesis, functionalization and characterization
Sammanfattning : Background: Separation science is heavily reliant on materials to fulfill ever more complicated demands raised by other areas of science, notably the rapidly expanding molecular biosciences and environmental monitoring. The key to successful separations lies in a combination of physical properties and surface chemistry of stationary phases used in liquid chromatographic separation, and this thesis address both aspects of novel separation materials. 4. Flame-Retardant Cellulose Fibre/Fibril Based Materials via Layer-by-Layer Technique
Sammanfattning : According to an analysis conducted by the Swedish Chemicals Inspectorate in 2006, the approximate numbers of fire injuries per year in Sweden are 100 deaths, 700 major and 700 minor injuries.1 Observations also show that there has been an increase in the number of house fires during recent years. 5. Investigation of electrochemical properties and performance of stimulation/sensing electrodes for pacemaker applications
Sammanfattning : People suffering from certain types of arrhythmia may benefit from the implantation of a cardiac pacemaker. Pacemakers artificially stimulate the heart by applying short electrical pulses to the cardiac tissue to restore and maintain a steady heart rhythm. By adjusting the pulse delivery rate the heart is stimulated to beat at desired pace. LÄS MER
