  1. 1. Risk factors in oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma

    Författare :Kerstin Rosenquist; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alcohol; case-control study; dental status; epidemiology; human papillomavirus; oral cancer; oral hygiene; oral mucosal lesions; population-based; prognosis; recurrence; risk factors; smokeless tobacco; smoking;

    Sammanfattning : År 2002 drabbades omkring 275 000 individer runt om i världen av cancer i munhålan. Mer än hälften av dessa kommer att dö av sin sjukdom inom 5 år. Förekomsten av cancer i munhåla och svalg (Oral and Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma, OOSCC) varierar i olika delar av världen. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Comorbidity and vascular risk factors  associated with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus : the INPH-CRasH Study

    Författare :Hanna Israelsson Larsen; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Norman Relkin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hydrocephalus; normal pressure; vascular disease; vascular risk factors; elderly; depression; case control study; epidemiology; dementia; vascular dementia; small vessel disease; cerebrovascular disease; transient ischemic attack; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is a dementia treatable by insertion of a cerebrospinal fluid shunt. It has been suggested that INPH has similar pathophysiological mechanisms as cerebrovascular disease, but the vascular risk factor (VRF) profile of INPH patients has not been assessed using a modern epidemiological approach. 3. 3. Adipose tissue gene expression & candidate genes for obesity

    Författare :Lovisa Johansson; Diabetes - klinisk obesitasforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Insulin resistance; Obesity; Adipose tissue; Adiponutrin; PNPLA; PPARGC1A; Gene expression; Case-control association study; Microarray; Genotyping; Population-based study;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity results from an interaction between genetic and environmental factors and is a growing health problem associated with development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This thesis has focused on investigating the genetic contribution in obesity and insulin resistance by both candidate and global gene approaches with focus on the adipose tissue. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Factors affecting attendance at population-based mammography screening

    Författare :Magdalena Lagerlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the studies described in this thesis was to explore factors affecting attendance at outreach mammography screening, and to assess possible associations between socioeconomic factors and breast cancer survival. The relation of non-attendance at mammography screening to sociodemographic factors, indicators of general health behavior, self-rated health, experience of cancer in others, and own cancer or breast problems was studied in a case-control study with 434 non-attenders and 515 attenders identified in a population-based mammography register in the county of Uppsala (Paper I). 5. 5. Causal inference and case-control studies with applications related to childhood diabetes

    Författare :Emma Persson; Ingeborg Waernbaum; Xavier de Luna; Gisela Dahlquist; Stijn Vansteelandt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; covariate selection; design-weighted estimation; marginal effect; matching; register study; treatment effect; type 1 diabetes mellitus; Statistics; statistik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to the research area of causal inference, where estimation of the effect of a treatment on an outcome of interest is the main objective. Some aspects of the estimation of average causal effects in observational studies in general, and case-control studies in particular, are explored. LÄS MER
