1. Population viability analysis for plants : practical recommendations and applications
Sammanfattning : Population viability analysis (PVA) is commonly used in conservation biology to predict population viability in terms of population growth rate and risk of extinction. However, large data requirements limit the use of PVA for many rare and threatened species. LÄS MER
2. Population Dynamics and Conservation of the Sand Lizard (Lacerta agilis) on the Edge of its Range
Sammanfattning : The sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) reaches the northern periphery of its distribution in south-central Sweden, where small, isolated relict populations occur in pine heath forests on sandy sediments. Modern forestry and fire suppression have reduced the amount of suitable open habitat for the species in this area and seem to be important for its decline. LÄS MER
3. Population viability analysis under environmental change : development of Bayesian tools
Sammanfattning : An understanding of the links between population dynamics and environmental variability, combined with information on how these factors change over time, is necessary to understand and predict population dynamics and viability in changing environments. Scientists need also to acknowledge uncertainties in their understanding of systems, which is straightforward using Bayesian statistics. LÄS MER
4. Analytical tools for monitoring and control of fermentation processes
Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this work has been to adopt new developments and techniques in the area of measurement, modelling and control of fermentation processes. Flow cytometry and software sensors are techniques which were considered ready for application and the focus was set on developing tools for research aiming at understanding the relationship between measured variables and process quality parameters. 5. Conservation Genetics of the Eurasian Otter in Sweden
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, molecular genetic methods were used to study a threatened species, the Eurasian otter. Estimates of population size and population dynamics parameters were obtained, the genetic effects of a restocking program was evaluated, and a population viability analysis was conducted to assess which demographic parameters are most important for the future viability of an otter population.
