  1. 11. A contribution to population dynamics in space

    Författare :Nikias Sarafoglou; Å.E. Andersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Population growth; population age structure; migration; labour market; housing market; production function; stochastic differential equations; partial differential equations;

    Sammanfattning : Population models are very often used and considered useful in the policy-making process and for planning purposes. In this research I have tried to illuminate the problem of analysing population evolution in space by using three models which cover a wide spectrum of complementary methodologies:a The Hotell. 2. 12. European Black Grouse : MHC Genetic Diversity and Population Structure

    Författare :Tanja Strand; Jacob Höglund; Helena Westerdahl; David S. Richardson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Major Histocompatibility Complex; BLB; balancing selection; concerted evolution; bottleneck; fragmentation; 3 UTR; Biologi med inriktning mot populationsbiologi; Biology with specialization in Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Black grouse Tetrao tetrix is a bird species composed of large, continuous as well as severely reduced and fragmented populations, making it an optimal species to investigate how genetic diversity is affected by habitat fragmentation. I have focused on genetic diversity in the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) to measure the ability of the black grouse to respond to environmental changes. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Ecology and genetic population structure of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins in East Africa

    Författare :Anna Särnblad Hansson; Per Berggren; Anders Angerbjörn; Göran Spong; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Tursiops aduncus; population size; distribution; social structure; behaviour; conservation status; mitochondrial DNA; microsatellites; Zanzibar; western Indian Ocean; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Many marine mammal populations are threatened by anthropogenic activities. The Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus) off Zanzibar are subject to high levels of bycatch, negative impact from tourism and were previously hunted. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Epidemiology and population structure of Campylobacter jejuni and related organisms in wild birds

    Författare :Jonas Waldenström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; epidemiology; Campylobacter lari; population structure; Helicobacter canadensis; Ecology; Parasitology human and animal ; Animal ecology; Djurekologi; Parasitologi människa och djur ; migration; Ekologi; wild birds; Sweden; Campylobacter jejuni;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni is one of the most common causes to bacterial gastroenteritis in the industrialised world. Also other species of the Campylobacter genus give rise to human infections. C. jejuni occurs in many different animal hosts and can be isolated from water sources. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Population Fragmentation and Genetic Variation in Grouse

    Författare :Jobs Karl Larsson; Jacob Höglund; Stuart B. Piertney; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Bonasa sewerzowi; bottleneck; genetic drift; genetic variation; inbreeding; isolation; microsatellites; population structure; Tetrao tetrix; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the genetic variation of two grouse species, the Chinese grouse (Bonasa sewersowi) and the Black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) was examined with neutral genetic markers: microsatellites. Habitat fragmentation and isolation leads to structuring among and loss of genetic variation within populations. LÄS MER
