    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; admixture; African demography; human evolutionary genetics; population structure; sex-biased admixture; Africa; population genetics; Biology with Specialisation in Human Evolution and Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot människans evolution och genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Africa is the birthplace of the human species and home to great linguistic, cultural, and genetic diversity. Despite this, the genetics of the peoples of the continent remains understudied. In this thesis, I apply population genetic approaches, to contribute to the knowledge of human demographic history in Africa. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Changing Swedish sickness insurance : Policies, institutions and outcomes

    Författare :Nadja Grees; Joakim Palme; Sven Oskarsson; Axel West Pedersen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to contribute to welfare state theorising by analysing changing risk protection in Swedish sickness insurance and demonstrate how the understanding of such, and its implications, can be enhanced by strategic methodological choices. When analysing formal policy change in the compulsory sickness insurance system, it is concluded that the Swedish system fulfils almost every aspect of a so called social democratic welfare state, and no institutional shift can be discerned over time. 3. 3. Complex disease genetics : Utilising targeted sequencing and homogeneous ancestry

    Författare :Argyri Mathioudaki; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Panagiotis Deloukas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ankylosing spondylitis; breast cancer; targeted sequencing; Sweden; genetics; population stratification.; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The complex disease investigations presented in this thesis aimed to provide new information regarding underlying genetics by using targeted sequencing and ethnically homogeneous cohorts. This work moved past current methodologies and addressed data stratification issues, that might have been hindering new findings. 4. 4. Biofilms in Nitrogen Removal - Bacterial Population Dynamics and Spatial Distribution

    Författare :Robert Almstrand; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AOB; NOB; biofilms; image analysis; FISH; Nitrosomonas; population dynamics; spatial distribution;

    Sammanfattning : Efficient nitrogen removal at wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is necessary to avoid eutrophication of recipient waters. The most commonly used approach consists of aerobic nitrification and subsequent anaerobic denitrification resulting in the release of dinitrogen gas into the atmosphere. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Social skiktning och ohälsa i Studien 1913 års män

    Författare :Tomas Faresjö; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social-epidemiolology; Socio-economic factors; Health inequality; Prospective population study; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis is to elucidate the relationship between social stratification and a broad spectrum of health problems covering subjective ill-health, serious illness and mortality. Against the background of a social-epidemiological frame of reference, special attention is alsopaid to other social factors that are related to occupation and stratification and its effect on health.
