  1. 16. Population Genetic Methods and Applications to Human Genomes

    Författare :Lucie Gattepaille; Mattias Jakobsson; Kevin Thornton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Population genetics; Human evolution; Genetic diversity; Genetic differentiation; Adaptation; Population structure; Effective population size; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Population Genetics has led to countless numbers of fruitful studies of evolution, due to its abilities for prediction and description of the most important evolutionary processes such as mutation, genetic drift and selection. The field is still growing today, with new methods and models being developed to answer questions of evolutionary relevance and to lift the veil on the past of all life forms. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Population Dynamics and Conservation of the Sand Lizard (Lacerta agilis) on the Edge of its Range

    Författare :Sven-Åke Berglind; Pekka Pamilo; Per Sjögren-Gulve; Coulson Tim; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; demography; extinction; habitat; Lacerta agilis; management; metapopulation; peripheral populations; population dynamics; population viability analysis; reintroduction; reptiles; umbrella species; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) reaches the northern periphery of its distribution in south-central Sweden, where small, isolated relict populations occur in pine heath forests on sandy sediments. Modern forestry and fire suppression have reduced the amount of suitable open habitat for the species in this area and seem to be important for its decline. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Models for coupled active-passive population dynamics : Mathematical analysis and simulation

    Författare :Thi Kim Thoa Thieu; Adrian Muntean; Matteo Colangeli; Grigorios A. Pavliotis; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pedestrian dynamics; simple exclusion process; Forchheimer flows; Skorohod equations; nonlinear coupling; heterogenous domain; homogenization; drafting; evacuation; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : In this dissertation, we study models for coupled active--passive pedestrian dynamics from mathematical analysis and simulation perspectives. The general aim is to contribute to a better understanding of complex pedestrian flows. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Linking plant population dynamics to the local environment and forest succession

    Författare :Johan Petter Dahlgren; Johan Ehrlén; Ove Eriksson; Mark Rees; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Actaea spicata; Forest herbs; Forest succession; Integral projection model; Plant demography; Plant phenology; Population dynamics; Pre-dispersal seed predation; Seed mass; Soil potassium; Specific leaf area; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Linking environmental variation to population dynamics is necessary to understand and predict how the environment influences species abundances and distributions. I used demographic, environmental and trait data of forest herbs to study effects of spatial variation in environmental factors on populations as well as environmental change in terms of effects of forest succession on field layer plants. 5. 20. Understanding Weather effects on, in, and from large Herbivore Population Dynamics

    Författare :Lena Månsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; monitoring; management; data collection; Ecology; Ekologi; indirect effects; vegetation; modeling; time series analysis; precipitation; weather; population dynamics; Large herbivores;

    Sammanfattning : Large herbivores are monitored for various reasons in many areas around the world. Data from such monitoring can be of varying degree of detail and extent. Several studies have shown that we need extensive amounts of data with a high degree of detail to be able to understand anything from it. LÄS MER
