  1. 16. The role of polysaccharide modifications during Drosophila development

    Författare :Florian Lüders; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ontogeni; growth animal ; embryologi; Development biology; Decapentaplegic; Hedgehog; Wingless; Sulfation; Pipe; Glycosaminoglycan; Glycosyltransferase; ontogeny; embryology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Glucosides attached to proteins and lipids have been shown to modulate the activity of signal transduction pathways regulating growth and patterning processes during animal development. In particular, O-linked glycans such as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) have been implicated in modulation of growth factor signaling pathways. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Biosynthesis of bacterial polysaccharides by novel glycosyltransferase enzymes

    Författare :Shu-Chieh Chang; Yves S. Y. Hsieh; Ute Römling; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Within the intricate microbiological realm, exopolysaccharides (EPS) emerge as a significant class of high molecular weight polysaccharides, serving pivotal roles in bacterial survival, virulence, communication, and defense against environmental adversities. The versatile nature of bacterial EPS extends beyond mere biological functions, reaching into medications, cosmetics, functional food, and sustainable industries. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Glucuronyl C5-epimerases in the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans

    Författare :Åsa Hagner McWhirter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on two enzymes, both glucuronyl CS-epimerases, that catalyse the conversion of D-glucuronic acid (GlcA) into L-iduronic acid (IdoA) residues in the repeating disaccharide units of heparin/heparan sulphate (HS) and dermatan sulphate (DS) polymers. These glycosaminoglycans are produced as proteoglycans, in which linear polysaccharide chains are attached covalently to a protein core. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Biosynthesis and biological role of leukotrienes in human lymphocytes

    Författare :Yilmaz Mahshid; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Leukotrienes (LT) are biologically active metabolites of arachidonic acid. The key enzyme in leukotriene biosynthesis is 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO). Leukotriene B4 exerts its biological effect mainly via BLT1, the high affinity receptor for LTB4. Leukotriene B4 is a potent proinflammatory and chemotactic mediator. LÄS MER
