  1. 6. On the Regulation of the Serine Protease t-PA and its Inhibitor PAI-1 in the Brain

    Författare :Karin Hultman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gene expression; astrocytes; blood-brain barrier; plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1; polymorphisms; protease nexin-1; tissue-type plasminogen activator; transcriptional regulation;

    Sammanfattning : The serine protease tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) is the main fibrinolytic enzyme in the vascular system, and thus plays a critical role in the dissolution of thrombi. In recent years, researchers have focused on its role within the brain, where t-PA has been shown to participate in a number of physiological and pathophysiological processes, including various aspects of synaptic plasticity and neurodegeneration. 2. 7. Psoriatic arthritis: a complex disease : analyses on genetic and serological biomarkers and of comorbidity

    Författare :Kristina Juneblad; Gerd-Marie Alenius; Solbritt Rantapää-Dahlqvist; Lars-Erik Kristenssen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Psoriatic Arthritis; genetics; inflammasomes; polymorphisms; biomarkers; disease expression; disease activity; cardiovascular diseases; mortality; epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) is a heterogonous inflammatory arthritis associated with psoriasis. The disease leads to inflammation of peripheral joints, axial skeleton and/or enthesites, and can result in severe destruction of affected joints. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Genetic variation in the folate receptor-alpha and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase genes as determinants of plasma homocysteine concentrations

    Författare :Anna Böttiger; Torbjörn Nilsson; Henrik Zetterberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Folate receptor-alpha; Folate; FOLR1; Haplotypes; Homocysteine; Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase; MTHFR; Polymorphisms; Pyrosequencing®; SSCP; Medicine; Medicin; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Sammanfattning : Elevated total plasma homocysteine (tHcy) is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and neurocognitive disease such as dementia. The B vitamins folate and B12 are the main de terminants of tHcy. tHcy concentration can also be affected by mutations in genes coding for receptors, enzymes and transporters important in the metabolism of Hcy. 4. 9. Low CXCR1 Expression and Susceptibility to Acute Pyelonephritis

    Författare :Ann-Charlotte Lundstedt; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; transplantation; Immunology; mykologi; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; Polymorphisms; Acute pyelonephritis; Chemokine receptor; serologi; Infections; Infektioner; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are clustered in certain individuals but the molecular basis of disease susceptibility is not known. A single gene was shown to control the susceptibility to acute pyelonephritis and renal scarring in mice. LÄS MER

  5. 10. On the Role of Osteoprotegerin/RANK/RANKL System in the Interaction between Prostate Cancer and Bone

    Författare :Hendrik Penno; Östen Ljunggren; Olof Nilsson; Andreas Kindmark; Pernilla Lundberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metastases; bone; prostate cancer; osteoprotegerin; RANKL; osteoporosis; genetics; polymorphisms; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : Metastases to bone are observed in around 80% of prostate cancer patients and represent the most critical complication of advanced prostate cancer. Unlike other solid tumors that are associated with osteolytic bone metastases, prostate cancer bone metastases stimulate osteoblastic activity with sclerosis in the bone lesions as a consequence.
