  1. 1. Poly(Ethylene Oxide) Based Bottle-Brush Polymers and their Interaction with the Anionic Surfactant Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate : Solution and Interfacial Properties

    Författare :Joseph Iruthayaraj; Per M. Claesson; Regine v. Klitzing; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PEO brush polymers; brush polymers; PEO; poly ethylene oxide ; polymer-surfactant; sodium dodecyl sulphate SDS ; Ellipsomtery; PEO-SDS interactions; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work is to study the physico-chemical properties of poly(ethylene oxide), PEO, based brush polymers both in solution and at solid/aqueous interfaces. The importance of studying the surface properties of brush polymers can be related to a broad spectrum of interfacial-related applications such as colloidal stability, lubrication, detergency, protein repellency to name a few. 2. 2. Polymer Gels and their Interactions with Ionic Surfactants

    Författare :Olof Rosén; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Polymer-Surfactant Interactions; Modified Polymers; Binding Isotherm; Polymer Gels; Swelling Isotherm; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The response on chemically crosslinked gels and polymer solutions on the addition of ionic surfactants and/or addition of salt at different temperatures have been studied. All polymers studied are water soluble and slightly hydrophobic or hydrophobically modified. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Surfactant Responsive Cross-Linked Polymer Hydrogels

    Författare :Jesper Sjöström; Research Policy Institute (RPI); []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Two-step binding isotherms; Resolubilization; Nonmonotonic transient volume changes; Swelling isotherms; Divinyl sulfone DVS ; Polyquaternium; Cellulose ethers; Amphiphilic cross-linked polymers; Responsive gels; Polymer-surfactant interactions;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of the thesis is on chemically cross-linked hydrogels which drastically change their volume when immersed in solutions of different ionic surfactants (with or without added salt). The two main questions addressed are: (1) How useful are simple gel swelling experiments to the study of polymer-surfactant interactions?, and (2) How does the volume of a cross-linked polymer gel change when it is immersed in a surfactant solution, both with respect to the equilibrium swelling and with respect to transient volume changes? Most of the gels studied were prepared by cross-linking linear polymers, which were well studied derivatives of hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Association Phenomena in Aqueous Solutions of Surfactants and Hydrophobically Modified Polymers

    Författare :Susanne Nilsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-diffusion; rheology; cellulose ethers; associating polymers; polymer-surfactant interactions; polymer network; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions between ionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate and dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride) and nonionic polymers ((hydroxyethyl)cellulose, ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose and their hydrophobically modified analogous) have been studied by means of rheology, pulsed field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG NMR), time-resolved fluorescence quenching (TRFQ), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM). In all experiments surfactants have been added in various amounts to polymer solutions at fixed concentrations. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Associative Multicomponent Polymers in Bulk and at Interfaces

    Författare :Fredrik Joabsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymer adsorption; polymer self-diffusion; polymer-surfactant interactions; phase behaviour; ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose; hydrophobically modified polymers; capillary-induced phase separation; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The solution and interfacial properties of an associative water-soluble cellulose derivative, ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose (EHEC) have been investigated. Main themes have been to study the effect of hydrophobic modification of the polymer (HM-EHEC) and the interactions with surfactants, both in bulk and at interfaces. LÄS MER
