11. Polybrominated diphenylethers in the environment - Local and long range transport
Sammanfattning : I have studied the sources, long range transport, and rates of flow of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), from the technosphere to the Baltic ecosystems. PBDEs are mainly used in polymers, which are applied in electrical equipment to prevent overheating or flashover and are produced in large quantities. LÄS MER
12. Quantifying pollutant spreading and the risk of water pollution in hydrological catchments : A solute travel time-based scenario approach
Sammanfattning : The research presented in the thesis develops an approach for the estimation and mapping of pollutant spreading in catchments and the associated uncertainty and risk of pollution. The first step in the approach is the quantification and mapping of statistical and geographical distributions of advective solute travel times from pollutant input locations to downstream recipients. 13. Monitoring transport and fate of de-icing salt in the roadside environment : Modelling and field measurements
Sammanfattning : Roads and traffic are a major non-point source of pollutants and may have severe impacts on surface water, groundwater, soil and vegetation. In cold climates, de-icing salt is one such pollutant that may cause increased chloride concentrations and induce other effects on the environment. LÄS MER
14. In pursuit of clean air through numerical simulations of no-waste pollutant removal
Sammanfattning : As epidemiological evidence continues to mount, it has become undeniable that exposure to high levels of airborne pollutants such as SOx and NOx are detrimental to human health. In recent years, millions of premature deaths by stroke, coronary heart disease, and lung cancer worldwide have been linked to poor outdoor air quality. LÄS MER
15. Transport of Mercury Species in the Environment. Exchange between Oceanic Waters and the Atmosphere
Sammanfattning : Mercury is an element present in the earth crust as well as a component in the atmosphere. During centuries mercury has been released by natural sources, e.g. volcanic eruptions, evasion from water surfaces and degassing from soil. LÄS MER
