6. Numerical study on instability and interaction of wind turbine wakes
Sammanfattning : Numerical simulations of the Navier-Stokes equations are conducted to achieve a better understanding of the behavior of wakes generated by the wind turbines. The simulations are performed by combining the in-house developed code EllipSys3D with the actuator line technique. LÄS MER
7. Mesoscale processes in the polar atmosphere : radar remote sensing, balloon-borne in situ measurements and modelling
Sammanfattning : Mesoscale processes (atmospheric phenomena with horizontal scales ranging from a few tens to several hundred kilometres and lasting from a few tens of minutes to a few days) have the potential to influence the chemical composition of the troposphere. Tropopause folds and mountain waves are two important types of mesoscale processes. LÄS MER
8. New Perspectives on Solar Wind-Magnetosphere Coupling
Sammanfattning : The streaming plasma in the solar wind is a never ending source of energy, plasma, and momentum for planetary magnetospheres, and it continuously drives large-scale plasma convection systems in our magnetosphere and over our polar ionosphere. This coupling between the solar wind and the magnetosphere is primarily explained by two different processes: magnetic reconnection at high latitudes, which interconnects the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) with the planetary dipole field, and low-latitude dynamos such as viscous interaction, where the streaming plasma in the solar wind may trigger waves and instabilities at the flanks of the magnetosphere, and thereby allow solar wind plasma to enter into the system. 9. How does O+ outflow vary with solar wind conditions?
Sammanfattning : The entire solar system including Earth is enveloped in a region of space where the Sun’s magnetic field dominates, this region is called the heliosphere. Due to this position in the heliosphere, a strong coupling exists between the Sun and our planet. LÄS MER
10. Retrieval of ocean surface winds and currents using satellite synthetic aperture radar and infrared radiometry
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the development, analysis and evaluation of methods for the retrieval of ocean surface winds with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and surface currents with infrared (IR) radiometer sensors. The SAR wind speed retrievals are based on geophysical model functions using wind directions obtained with two approaches. LÄS MER
