  1. 1. Signaling determinants in Trojan horse-mediated dissemination of Toxoplasma gondii

    Författare :Einar B. Ólafsson; Antonio Barragan; Eva Frickel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; leukocyte motility; dendritic cell; amoeboid migration; host-parasite interactions; podosome; integrin; ITGB1; ECM; MAT; TIMP; MMP; MAPK; Erk; RTK; HGFR; Ras; calcium; VDCC; VGCC; calmodulin; CaMkII; CD63; FAK; SRC; Pi3k; hypermigration; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects all warm-blooded vertebrates including one third of the global human population. While infection is typically asymptomatic in healthy human hosts, reactivated and acute infection in immunosuppressed or immunecompromised individuals can lead to lethal toxoplasmic encephalitis After ingestion, the parasite crosses the intestinal epithelium and rapidly achieves systemic dissemination, ultimately establishing chronic infection in the brain. 2. 2. Toll-like receptor activation induced changes in dendritic cells

    Författare :Oscar Hammarfjord; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells (DC) are professional antigen-presenting cells that act as a “bridge” between innate and adaptive immunity by the induction and subsequent orchestration of immune responses. The ligation of Toll-like receptors (TLR) and other innate receptors on DC determines their immune-stimulating capacity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of GRAF1 membrane sculpting function during cell movement

    Författare :Monika K. Francis; Richard Lundmark; Pekka Lappalainen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocytosis; migration; polarisation; tension; CLIC GEEC; GRAF1; Rho GTPase; Cdc42; Rab8; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : All eukaryotic cells rely on endocytic events to satisfy a constant need for nutrient and fluid uptake from their surroundings. Endocytosis-dependent turnover of cell surface constituents also serves to control signal transduction and establish morphological changes in response to extracellular stimuli. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Learning from primary immunodeficiencies to treat cancer

    Författare :Mariana M S Oliveira; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The immune system is a fine-tuned network of cells, tissues, organs and biological processes working together in order to protect our body. Immunodeficiency disorders occur when the body’s immune system is reduced or absent and can be characterized as primary, if the cause of disease is genetic; or secondary, if the cause of disease are extrinsic factors.
