  1. 1. The role of melanocortin 1 receptor in kidney disease

    Författare :Annika Lindskog Jonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephrotic syndrome; proteinuria; adrenocorticotropic hormone; melanocortin 1 receptor; podocytes;

    Sammanfattning : Nephrotic syndrome is a term describing a group of poorly understood glomerular diseases that are responsible for a steadily increasing number of patients requiring active uremic care. Characteristic symptoms of nephrotic syndrome are proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia and peripheral edema, and treatment of these symptoms, rather than their cause, is currently the only option available to the clinician. Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is one of the most common types of cell death. Under physiological conditions, it plays an essential role in removal of damaged and potentially harmful cells. Excessive apoptosis has however been linked to a number of diseases including proteinuric kidney disease and DKD, and is believed to enhance the disease progression. LÄS MER

  3. 3. ADAMTS13 phenotype in health and disease with special reference to thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

    Författare :Minola Manea Hedström; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urology; tubular cells; podocytes; kidney; plasma; ADAMTS13; thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi; Pediatrics; Pediatri;

    Sammanfattning : Von Willebrand factor (VWF) is synthesized and secreted by endothelial cells into the plasma as a series of multimers. VWF induces the formation of platelet plugs at sites of vascular injury and high shear stress. Biological activity is dependent on multimeric size, which is regulated in plasma by the VWF-cleaving protease ADAMTS13. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is one of the most important and complex organs in the humanbody with the task of filtering hundreds of litres of blood daily. It is responsiblefor the salt and acid/base balance in the body, as well as secretinghormones important for red blood cell production and blood pressure regulation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cellular and molecular mechanisms of kidney injury and regeneration

    Författare :Michelle Kha; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kidney; injury; regeneration; repair; scattered tubular cells; proximal tubular cells; podocytes; SOX9; HNF4A;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of kidney disease is constantly increasing with about 600 million people afflicted globally. Kidney disease may result in end stage renal disease, a condition that requires renal replacement therapy in the form of kidney transplantation or dialysis. LÄS MER
