  1. 1. Podocyte Melanocortin 1 Receptor Mediated Signaling : A potential new target for patients with kidney diseases

    Författare :Johannes Elvin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Podocyte; Melanocortin 1 Receptor; actin cytoskeleton; nephrotic syndrome; adrenocorticotropic hormone; oxidative stress; RhoA; Kidney disease;

    Sammanfattning : Treatment of patients with nephrotic syndrome (NS) is currently unspecific and directed at ameliorating the symptoms rather than eliminating the cause. NS is actually a multitude of glomerular diseases characterized by poorly understood disease mechanisms and symptoms that include proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia and edema. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A Podocyte view on RhoGTPases and actin cytoskeleton regulation

    Författare :Lovisa Bergwall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Podocyte; RhoGTPases; Actin cytoskeleton regulation;

    Sammanfattning : Proteinuria is a hallmark symptom of chronic kidney disease, that if left to persist constitutes a risk for progression of disease. Symptomatic treatment aiming at decreasing proteinuria is therefore standard practice. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular perspectives on glomerular cell physiology in chronic kidney disease

    Författare :Emelie Lassén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic kidney disease; IgA nephropathy; mesangial cell; podocyte; CKAP4;

    Sammanfattning : Glomerulonephritis is one of the most common causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the world. Recent establishment of guidelines for classification of CKD in five stages has led to increased awareness of the risks of comorbidity and mortality, also in patients with early stages of disease, and the need to further advance our understanding of their pathogenic mechanisms. 4. 4. Functional and molecular aspects of the glomerular barrier

    Författare :Anna Björnson Granqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :glomerular endothelium; glycocalyx; podocyte; proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycans; nephrotic syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : The kidneys are crucial for maintaining a normal salt-water balance in the body, which is a prerequisite for life. They do that by filtering 180 liters of plasma per day across the highly permselective glomerular barrier and reabsorbing 99 % of the filtrate. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nephrin : intracellular trafficking and podocyte maturation

    Författare :Stefania Cotta Doné; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nephrin; CNF; podocytes; glomerulus;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital nephrotic syndrome of the Finnish type, CNF, is an autossomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the NPHS1 gene and, consequently, in its product nephrin, a 180 kDa transmembrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily of adhesion molecules. In kidneys, nephrin is located exclusively to the podocyte slit diaphragm and it has a key role in organising amd maintaining the renal ultrafiltation barrier. LÄS MER
