16. Endothelial : mural cell interplay in regulation of blood- and lymph vessel development and function
Sammanfattning : Blood- and lymphatic vascular development and homeostasis depend on correct endothelial- mural cell interaction, and dysregulation thereof is apparent in multiple human diseases. However the mechanisms controlling the formation of these respective vascular systems are not fully understood. LÄS MER
17. Investigations of Leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain-proteins 1 and 2 (LRIG1 and LRIG2) and their genes in cancer
Sammanfattning : The mammalian leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domains (LRIG) gene family consists of three different members, LRIG1, LRIG2, and LRIG3. These genes are expressed in all human and mouse tissues analyzed to date. LÄS MER
18. Expression profiling of blood vessels in pericyte deficiency and diabetes
Sammanfattning : The kidney glomerulus is essential for the filtration of waste products from the blood into the urine and in controlling the volume and composition of body fluids. Injury to the glomerulus can lead to altered glomerular filtration rate, proteinuria, thickening of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) and accumulation of mesangial cell matrix. LÄS MER
19. Galanin receptor subtypes in rodent models of mood disorders
Sammanfattning : Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious mental illness, with a complex etiology. It is a multifactorial disorder caused by a combination of genetic, environmental and epigenetic factors. Exposure to stressful life events seems to be a common, contributing cause of morbidity. 20. Brain galanin sytems and their role in depression-like behaviour
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the role of the neuropeptide galanin and galanin receptor subtypes in behavioural functions with a particular focus on depression-like behaviour. In agreement with its wide distribution in the central nervous system, galanin has been implicated in various functions, including regulation of reproduction, endocrine functions, antinociception, attention, learning and memory as well as regulation of mood.
