1. Plasmons in Nanostructured Graphene
Sammanfattning : Plasmons, collective electron density oscillations, provide physicists with intriguing challenges and possibilities. The inherent many-body properties of the plasmons together with their ability to localize light into small volumes make the plasmons interesting from both a purely theoretical viewpoint and an applications point of view. 2. Graphene plasmons in nanostructured environments
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the combination of electromagnetism with electrons in graphene. Graphene is a one atom thick layer of carbon atoms which contains electrons that exhibit rather special properties in terms of their conduction abilities. LÄS MER
3. Effects of surface plasmons in subwavelength metallic structures
Sammanfattning : The study of optical phenomena related to the strong electromagnetic response of noble metals (silver (Ag) and gold (Au) being most popular) over the last couple of decades has led to the emergence of a fast growing research area called plasmonics named after 'surface plasmons' which are electron density waves that propagate along the interface of a metal and a dielectric medium. Surface plasmons are formed by the coupling of light to the electrons on the metal surface subject to the fulfillment of certain physical conditions and they are bound to the metal surface. LÄS MER
4. Free Metal Clusters Studied by Photoelectron Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Clusters are aggregates of a finite number of atoms or molecules. In the present work, free clusters out of metallic parent materials have been created and studied by synchrotron radiation-based photoelectron spectroscopy. The clusters have been formed and studied in a beam and the electronic structure of the clusters has been investigated. LÄS MER
5. Exciton-plasmon interactions in metal-semiconductor nanostructures
Sammanfattning : Semiconductor quantum dots and metal nanoparticles feature very strong light-matter interactions, which has led to their use in many photonic applications such as photodetectors, biosensors, components for telecommunications etc.Under illumination both structures exhibit collective electron-photon resonances, described in the frameworks of quasiparticles as exciton-polaritons for semiconductors and surface plasmon-polaritons for metals.
